I thought this was inevitable, as soon as I read about the Novo Celebration dinner, and his autobiography being released.

All the best to him, hopefully he does well.

Really sad to lose him. I wanted him to stay. Best of luck to him though.

If Nacho plays full matches regularly for them he could make a big difference to the team. He did for us a good few times.

NACHO NOVO has ended his six-year stay at Rangers by signing a deal with Spanish outfit Sporting Gijon.

The 31-year-old has been offered an extended deal at Ibrox but has chosen to move on for the sake of getting regular first-team football.

That's something he was lacking with the Light Blues as the SPL title was retained and he made significantly more substitute appearances than any other player in the squad.

Indeed, he featured in all bar three of the 38 games Gers played in the championship - but only started 14 of them in total.

Ironically, it was as a substitute that Novo enjoyed some of his finest moments playing for Govan outfit.

In the 2007/08 campaign, his last-minute strike after coming on against Red Star Belgrade ultimately led to qualification for the Champions League group phase.

Later that season, his penalty shoot-out winner that sent Rangers to the UEFA Cup final at Fiorentina's expense also came as a replacement for Steven Davis.

That night just over two years ago goes down as Novo's biggest highlight as a Light Blues star but there have been many others too.

Amongst them were his winner against Hibs as the league was claimed on Helicopter Sunday back in 2005, as well as his Scottish Cup final winner against Falkirk last year.

Novo scored 72 times for Rangers in total and despite not always featuring recently, he still hit the net nine times in his final year in Glasgow.

His new club Gijon finished 15th in La Liga earlier this month but they were amongst the competition's lowest scorers.

They will look for the ex-Raith and Dundee hitman - who has signed a two-year contract - to provide added firepower next term as they look to push further up the table.

Novo becomes the third departure from the club this summer after Steven Smith and DaMarcus Beasley confirmed they would ply their trade elsewhere next season.
