RANGERS last night made a £500,000 swoop to snap up Palermo defender Dorin Goian.

Ibrox boss Ally McCoist wants to seal the deal before Tuesday's Champions League clash with Malmo.

McCoist is allowed to register ONE more player before 5pm on Monday - and Goian is the man he wants.

The 30-year-old Romanian stopper - who stands at 6ft 5in tall - cost the Italian club £2million in 2009.

But Gers believe they can snatch him for much less than that amount with Palermo weighing up the offer last night.

McCoist admits he's desperate to stiffen his defence ahead of the Euro qualifier.

He said: "We're hopefully going to progress the lad from Palermo.

"Hopefully we can take that a stage further.

"There's a bit of work before a deal can be done, but there are four or five players in the pot bubbling over.

"I'm very hopeful we'll get something done.

"I think it has to be done by five o'clock on Monday - around 25 hours before kick-off - and I'm hopeful we'll do that.

That is where the Daylate Rhebel got 5 players from. Talk about sensationalism.

C'mon be fair. That partnership was more than just a couple of tanks ffs.

Big Marv could play a bit too. :pipe:

Haha excellent point! That has to be one of my favourite partnerships we've had at the back in recent years!

That diagonal for Prsos volley against them.......

I have no problem with no nonsense defenders. I would have described Cuellar as a no nonsense defender. Could he play? Fuck aye, but he defended first.

If you could have a back four of guys who fit that description you'd be laughing.

6 foot 5 defender, good luck breaking that down pooper!

Would fancy him to score a few headers at that height.

It's all about the delivery, not the height of our players. Currently, we really don't have a set-piece specialist who can consistently whip in good balls.

There would be a real market for the derby Palermo defender Dorin Goian (30). In addition to the Glasgow Rangers, Celtic is also very interested in the Rosanero, and indeed it seems the favorite to make sure of the performance. As reported by itasportpress.it , the offer made by Celtic would be more advantageous than that of the Rangers, and soon the deal could be completed.

I don't know what to make of Dorin Goian these days. Seems like he hasn't played that much and has had a few injury problems.

Certainly has the physical presence, strength and aerial ability but he is pretty poor with the ball at his feet, his positioning is pretty suspect and he is quite slow.

Your no-nonsense, hard, physical defender who is technically not the best.

I think this is the sort of defender we need to partner Bougherra, somebody to get stuck in about the opposition. Bougherra often has the pace to cover anyway. It would not be ideal though having a defender that is rather slow.
