rangersxfc 265
Anthony Stokes didn't dive in League Cup Final - and he has scars to prove it, says Celtic skipper Scott BrownCELTIC captain Scott Brown has joined Neil Lennon in accusing ref Willie Collum of costing the Hoops the first trophy of the season – and a possible Treble. The midfielder, like his boss, claimed the Parkhead club should have been awarded an injury-time penalty in Sunday’s League Cup Final against Kilmarnock when Anthony Stokes went to ground under a tackle by Michael Nelson.Trailing 1-0 at the time to sub Dieter Van Tornhout’s header, Brown thought Celtic were about to be handed a lifeline but watched in disbelief as Collum booked Stokes for simulation. The final whistle sounded soon afterwards to end Celtic’s Treble dreams with the trophy heading to Rugby Park for the first time ever.Angry Parkhead gaffer Lennon afterwards described Collum’s refusal to point to the spot as “criminal” and his skipper’s response to the call was no less emphatic.Brown said: “We should have had a penalty. Everyone knew what was happening, their coaches knew as well but the ref somehow didn’t see it.“It was definitely not a dive and Stokes has the scars to prove it. That would have taken it to extra-time had we scored it and we were in the driving seat at that time.”Celtic’s first defeat in 27 domestic games was down to a combination of profligacy and a man-of-the-match display by Cammy Bell. After making a crucial early save from Gary Hooper, the Killie keeper denied Stokes later in the first-half with a great save before thwarting Brown, Victor Wanyama, Georgios Samaras and Kris Commons.Brown said: “Over the 90 minutes we were the better side but their keeper played very well. We just didn’t get the ball in the back of the net.“We’ve been flying recently but we knew it would be difficult against Kilmarnock.”Lennon was hoping to become the first person to win the Treble as a player and manager, having been a part of Martin O’Neill’s Celtic side that cleaned up in 2000-01.Celtic could clinch the SPL title this Sunday against Rangers at Ibrox and are in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, where the play either St Mirren or Hearts. But Lennon won’t give up on his dream of a clean sweep. He said: “It was disappointing. We came close last year, we’ve come closer this year. We’ll try to go one closer next year.“But this has been a fantastic season. The standards set by the players mean that there is a huge disappointment that we won’t win the Treble.“That is the standard that they have set in the last 18 months.”could this be the greatest piece of scottish journalism of all time ???? what a fud

Papa Sasac 164
That one 'tackle' obviously was the cause of the supposed scars, not the previous 93 minutes.
ManchestGer 351
It's good to see them hurting but I wish someone in the SFA would have the balls to call them up on the continuous claims of being cheated, I'll hold my breath though.
foghorn leghorn 608
After comsulting with Saun Maloney and Stillian Petrov , Stokes will be out for 3 weeks while his stitches heal.Broony was the only player/person in the world to see this terrible injury and is now going to take legal action against the Killie defender for stress caused. JimmyCR1 1,566
Who cares? They can't win the treble now, that's that. We could have went on and on about or goal that was over the line but wasn't given but we didn't. This is what they do, it wasnt their fault they couldn't score in 93 mins, it was the referees for some reason

Killie bosses Shiels and Nicholl at full-time Boss Kenny felt the pain too KENNY SHIELS really does regard every Kilmarnock player as if they are a son * Cammy haunted by Ramos boob * Manny Pascali sharing the pain * Killie in talks over deal for Shiels * Lenny’s not been outfoxed by rival * Danny Racchi on pal’s cup final hellThe Celtic ace and his boss Neil Lennon were adamant they were robbed of the Treble by ref Willie Collum in the 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock. The whistler ignored a last-gasp claim when Stokes went down in the box as Nelson went in to tackle him.Stokes was booked for diving and was furious afterwards saying it was a definite penalty. The big Killie defender admitted there was contact in the box but revealed the Hoops ace had changed his tune soon after watching replays of the challenge.Nelson said: "There was slight contact, but whether it was enough for him to go down, I don't know. At the time he said it was a stonewall penalty and I had said to him on the pitch that there was slight contact."When I spoke to him again after the game inside Hampden, he said that he had watched it back and he wasn't so sure."Nelson confessed he thought the ref was going to award a spot-kick and he was about to be sent off in injury-time.He admitted: "When the referee blew his whistle, I thought I was going to be sent off and he'd award a penalty."But when he marched straight past me, I had a sigh of relief and just got on with the game."Even if they are absolutely adamant it was a clear-cut penalty, the referee didn't give it in the end."It's all ifs and buts now. Cammy Bell would probably have saved the penalty to be honest with the game he was having."The belief was always there for Kilmarnock and Nelson insists they wouldn't have won otherwise. He said: "Celtic had a spell at the start of the game but we managed to take the ball off them for long periods of the first half."We kept the ball and worked good opportunities. They came out and pressed us in the second half but we managed to get the goal."They came into the match on a 26-game unbeaten run and people thought we were there to make up numbers."But we knew we could do it. We knew we could get in among them and really start pestering them."Killie keeper Bell played the game of his life and Nelson knows they owe him a big thanks for winning the silverware. He said: "Some people have those games from time to time and it is fantastic he had his on a massive stage."Cammy was just excellent although so was Fraser Forster but Cammy has been like that ever since I joined the club."He pulls saves off when you think he has no right to."The header from Stokes in the first half was fantastic but he's not just a shot-stopper."He talks well and is also comfortable with the ball at his feet — it's like having an outfield player attimes."Even while they took pride in their performance all their thoughts were with Liam Kelly after his dad tragically died after the game from a heart attack.Nelson added: "We went from total elation to absolute devastation. Now we have just got to try and be there for him and help him through it as best we can."Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/4205750/Even-Stokes-had-doubts.html#ixzz1pf4pFcQu
