Kenny Shiels sacked?

Recommended Posts

from the Daily Rebel so it's anyone's guess if this is true or not

KILMARNOCK last night parted company with controversial manager Kenny Shiels.

Mailsport understands Rugby Park chairman Michael Johnston has axed the gaffer for failing to meet contractual targets last term.

The Ayrshire side's fourth-bottom finish triggered a get-out clause.

Killie acted on that yesterday and sacked their manager, who walks away with nothing after failing to claim at least a top-eight place.

Johnston had stated Shiels' future was under review after the SFA sanctioned the Northern Irishman for his media comments.

Shiels copped a four-game ban, two of which are suspended, for criticising the SFA's disciplinary system and implying Celtic had undue influence on the governing body.

Shiels arrived at Rugby Park in summer 2010 as assistant to Mixu Paatelainen then stepped into the hotseat in June 2011.

The 57-year-old led the club to victory in the 2012 League Cup final with a 1-0 win over Celtic at Hampden.

This was from the chairman yesterday:

"Kenny's position is under review at present," said Johnston.

"This is due to his failure to meet a contractual performance related target and potential breaches of contract relating to media comments and observance of Scottish FA articles and rules and SPL articles and rules."

I posted a few weeks ago that the Kilmarnock fans wasn't happy with Sheils and wanted him out, so this isn't really a surprise tbh.

He hasn't had a great season this year, sure he won them the cup the year before, but I'm sure they got knocked out the same one by Stenhousemuir this year? Plus with 6 games to go and only needing 1 point to gaurentee a top 6 finish, they lose to Dundee at home & St Mirren and end up finishing 9th.

Dunno who they would bring in, perhaps QOS manager Johnstone? He used to play with them.

Strange one. Won league cup previous year. Hardly got cash to move forward. Says what he feels which the sfa dont like

Needed one point from six to get into the top six and blew it, knocked out of the league cup in the early rounds and is a fairly confrontational/outspoken manager.

I'm not surprised that they decided to make a change/activate an out.

Kilmarnock: Queens manager Allan Johnston agrees terms

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston has agreed terms with Kilmarnock, the Dumfries club have confirmed.

The Second Division champions had set a deadline of Monday evening for Johnston, 39, to decide on his future.

Kilmarnock have been seeking a new manager since sacking Kenny Shiels on 11 June.

Johnston, the PFA Scotland manager of the year, will now return to Rugby Park where he played for five years.

Queens had become frustrated over the length of time it was taking for a decision to be made.

"Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston requested permission to speak to Allan Johnston on Thursday 13 June whilst Allan was on a family holiday," said a club statement.

"Permission was granted as there is no point in denying that when a top division side are interested, though it was made clear to Allan that we obviously did not want him to leave.

Kilmarnock's last five managers

  • Kenny Shiels (2011-13)
  • Mixu Paatelainen (2010-11)
  • Jimmy Calderwood (2010)
  • Jim Jefferies (2002-10)
  • Bobby Williamson (1996-2002)

"Our understanding is that Allan was offered the Kilmarnock job last Monday and asked for a few days to consider the offer. We are disappointed that a full week later the position remains unresolved."

The deal will see the Palmerston club receive about £30,000 for the move to go through, with Johnston and assistant Sandy Clark signing two-year deals with the Scottish Premier League club.

Johnston held talks with Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston last week.

The former Kilmarnock winger led the Doonhamers to Second Division title victory and Scottish Challenge Cup success last season.

Johnston was interviewed by his namesake at Killie last week, as was former Blackburn manager Henning Berg .
