Ethical sponsorship - or cash at any cost

I just noticed that 'they' have signed a sponsorship deal with E-Lites - the battery operated cigs - and I think I would be uncomfortable with us taking cash for that type of promotion (and while a case can be made that they help reduce smoking - I feel they actually promote it) (I also know that because 'they' have done it we will be naturally against it!).

But it got me thinking about who would we be happy sponsoring us and who not - The whole payday loan company thing makes me boak and I cetainly would NOT buy any shirt or Rangers goods with WONGA on it (other pay day shysters available) or the like.

BUT while taking a moral stance against fag substitutes and payday loan sharks I have no issues with DRINK! company sponsorship at all!!

So who would you hate sponsoring the company and who would you like?

I think Virgin would be great sponsors - especially of the UB/TBO section of support.

Slumberland could sponsor where I sit - GF!

Greggs could sponsor the food and 'Macallan' the DRINK!

HMRC (or any bank) could sponsor the Board (Money grabbing b*****ds)

I dont think I would like the 'Green Deal' sponsoring the club, nor Babcock (cause the name makes me laugh)

People wouldn't want a payday loan company, but are happy to have a drinks company sponsor us? Really?

I know a LOT more people's life's who have been ruined by drink, than payday loan companies. At the end of the day these companies offer a service, and every jackey bastard under the sun would take full advantage if they were happy to let you pay them back whenever. I know a boy who borrowed 600 quid of wonga, didn't pay them back on time and they got in touch with him and set up a payment plan over the next 2 months to pay them back and all he got what was an extra 80 quid fine, which is hardly unreasonable? If you don't make repayments which you agreed to then tough luck, you agreed to it at the end of the day. Rangers charge an extra 15 quid a month if you miss a payment on your season ticket. I got charged 15 quid by them because I got a new bank card and didn't know I had to tell them, shall I boycott that?

Orange would have been the most obvious sponsor for us because every real Rangers fan likes, or is a member of the Orange Order.

EE doesnt quite have the same ring to it though.

LOL - I always likes 'The furures bright the futures orange!' (but it wasnae!)

After being a smoker for 40 odd years e-cigs helped me stop it, nothing else worked and believe me I tried

just about every other cessation method. I also know of quite a few other folk having success using e-cigs

so for me they are not unethical they are a bloody miracle.

I don't think that is unethical at all.

They certainly encourage continued Nicotine addiction, however that in itself isn't unhealthy. Alcohol advertising is much worse; far more detrimental to your personal health? There are also huge drains on the NHS and Police associated with alcohol.

So your argument is seriously flawed I'm afraid.

It's not black and white with these companies I'm afraid. While I agree they provide a valuable service it is often the most vulnerable in society who need to use them.

The interest rates are high because the intention is that the loans are repaid quickly, unfortunately because they lend to anyone it is inevitable people who cannot afford to pay it back will apply for loans. Yes they shouldn't be taking the loans we all appreciate that, however the onus should be on the company not to lend to people who can't pay them back.

Just like a reputable mortgage company will only give you a mortgage for 2.4-3 times your salary.

That is why they are seen to prey on the most vulnerable.
