Our Support Changed When Murray Bought Our Club

When Murray came in, Rangers turned their back on the Traditional support, to appease the media and press. He was more interested in the prawn cocktail brigade, the ones who only used our club as a hobby, and also allowed people to kick our club all over the place.

Murray also tried to turn the fans against each other, by bringing in the grass line, to encourage fans to grass on other fans for singing songs. And yes he did bring good days to our club, and i cheered every title and cup that we won. But in the end, he helped run our club into the ground, and at the end, he sold our club to the wrong man.

When i now sit back and think, was all the success worth it, in my opinion no. If i had the chance to give everything back, i would, if it prevented the club going under, even if it meant winning nothing. When you think that greater men in history than Murray helped build our great club, and look where we have ended up.

I just do not agree with your post overall. When Murray took over the first 10 - 15 years were tremendous. The straw which broke the camel's back was the EBT scheme, plain and simple. The threat of HMRC pursuing the Club for multi-millions frightened off all buyers except one fraudster. As for losing the traditional fan base, I cannot agree. People were changing in general and so were attitudes. What is wrong with corporate sponsorship for RFC? Every other club uses it to raise income.

I know lots of guys who stopped going because of Murray. The said when you could get jailed for singing a song, was the time to stop going.

In the fullness of time when we (if we ever will) find out the full details of the events leading to the sale to whyte it might be a better time to evaluate Murray....for me though I am still eternally grateful to him....he brought us tremendous success and allowed us all to dream....yes where we are now is the trade off but at the same time I'm not sure id swap the highs we achieved.

Would it not have been easier to just not sing those songs. What is more important. Rangers or the songs?

Why do you always get someone like you coming up with this shite excuse? People who went years ago never had any problem with songs or shouting at the opposition etc.....everyone expected that back then, now they are getting threatened with the jail and a criminal record for it.

And you can say stuff like things change etc.........things might change but the fans don't change. The politicians should just stick to what they know best fucking up the country. And the police should do what their paid to do aswell jail people for Murder or being rapists etc etc...........Not for singing a song or flying a flag.

The Rangers i fell in love with as a kid was Murrays Rangers i didnt know or understand money and suchlike during 9in a row but i loved the club and our team i would not of wanted our sucess to come at such a cost a decade and more later but neither would i want to lose memorys of Gazza and Laudrup, almost getting to the CL final, the road to Manchester or countless other golden moments. Murrays reckless attitude with money and his ego trips both contributed to our success and our downfall

But fans do change and that is the way of it. As society changes we change along with it . The songs that are now not allowed were not around in the early days of the club, as times changed and people changed those songs began to be sung and so on. As a support we evolve but what remains is the support for the team that plays on the pitch.

In my opinion, You can't cherry pick parts of your history, you have to accept the full 140 years. Struth, Lawrence, Marlborough, Holmes Souness, I'd better stop there)

All the decisions made through the years brings you to this point in time, if Murray hadn't happened, you don't know what would have occurred in it's place.

At the end of the day, what doesn't kill makes you stronger and as we survived the recent past's extreme events, who knows where we will be in ten years time, our rise may be unstoppable.

Don't completely agree with you. The support did change when the ' camel coat brigade ' came but even more ' ordinary ' bears came too.

I remember the lean years between JW first spell and Souness coming where we weren't even close to winning the league ( other than JGs first season ) and it was hard going - at the time it seemed to last forever. So would I give all that subsequent success up ? I'd have to say no.

Think Murray was good at first , then when Avocaat came he chased a dream which , to me, was the start of our financial problems. A bit more prudence there may have averted everything more recent.

i agree and dont with both tbh, but the eradication of our tradition and culture started well before murray, round about the 70's when the nationalists aka 79 club were getting support from the o'irish and became politisised and we now have the national socialist snp, they have been eating away at our culture, just like NI for decades, including the mighty one and only THE RANGERS

Murray didn't jail anyone for singing any song. The laws of football and the country changed, unfortunately some of our support didn't. If they prefer to sing particular songs instead of supporting Rangers then they won't be missed.

I know lots of guys who stopped going becuase of the camel coat brigade that they were seated next to. The sound of sweetie papers rustling was frightening. Fucking Govan was/is full of them and FFS don't swear or sing TBB. I was grassed and the prick two along was the culprit and I let him know it. Good thing was I had quite a few acquaintances around me who made his life misery by giving big uns to every loyalist song in the book. He, his two mates and his his pancake face bit on the side moved! I mean the cheeck of the holier than thou cunt looking down his nose at a few party songs when he's out doin the dirty on his missus. Good fuckin riddance I say!
