Stuart McCall says there's no point in complaint

Celtic remain incensed that officials missed Inverness defender Josh Meekings’ handball as they led 1-0 during their 3-2 semi-final loss to Caley Thistle last Sunday.

While he would have been sent off, had it been seen by referee Steven McLean, SFA compliance officer Tony McGlennan’s bid to apply a retrospective suspension failed on Thursday.

The case wasn’t even looked at by a three-man panel as the association’s rules determined it wasn’t entitled to consider whether Meekings’ actions had been deliberate.

Hoops boss Ronny Deila has questioned why referees don’t discuss decisions after games as they do in his native Norway.

McCall, sees merit in that – but, when asked if he would have complained to the SFA had a big call gone against his side, he said: “My honest answer is no. What can you do? The referee missed it.

“It’s cost them massively, there’s no doubt about it, but they’ve messed up and you can’t go back and change it. We all make mistakes.

“If I wrote to the SFA, what would I expect back from them? ‘Sorry, it was a mistake.’ What more can be said?

“I’m sure every manager and supporter can look back on dozens of decisions that didn’t go their way. Sometimes it would be a good for refs to explain their decisions.

“I think refs would like to come out and say, ‘Hand on heart, I got it wrong, I missed it’.

“But, as sore as it is, as desperate as you feel, you have to recognise that human beings make mistakes.”

He should have added, because we're not as paranoid as that lot
