The Billy Boys (Reprise)

Although I am totally reluctant to give up the popular version (and will continue to sing it at private venues), but can't see it being entertained by anyone in this easily offended world (not even our Club), I agree we have to put alternatives out there to get the song back on the song sheet at Ibrox and at away venues.

Although sanitised this version removes the "offending words" doh and replaces them with a more Club only anthem which may help to at least bring our tune back into our song repertoire.

As a few others have mentioned, the start of this war cry is the important part, due to the noise factor, perhaps they should only be kept and the song changed completely, in this case.

My favourite is the mention of "Silverware", but only being up to our "knees" in it seems to me to be below the amount of silverware we actually have won, so used head hair instead, being at a higher part of the anatomy than knee level.

I can understand that hair may be classed as being insensitive to all the follicley challenged of our support, but as hair still grows at eyebrow level this should not be seen to be elitist in any way ..... :P

Hullo ... Hullo,

We are The Rangers Team,

Hullo ... Hullo,

The Best you've ever seen,

We're up to our hair in Silverware,

And going for 55, (change as honours increase)

For we are The Glasgow Rangers Team.

:uk:

mon over to my thread about the new signings ur the type the thread needs

Well the original lyrics to Marching Through Georgia which is the tune the song is based on are thus

Bring the good old bugle, boys, we'll sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it, 50,000 strong
While we were marching through Georgia.

Chorus
Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 2
How the darkeys shouted when they heard the joyful sound
How the turkeys gobbled which our commissary found
How the sweet potatoes even started from the ground
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 3
Yes and there were Union men who wept with joyful tears,
When they saw the honored flag they had not seen for years;
Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers,
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 4
"Sherman's dashing Yankee boys will never reach the coast!"
So the saucy rebels said and 'twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 5
So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
Sixty miles in latitude, three hundred to the main;
Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Georgia.

Now we are never going to get our fans to do a 5 verse song and using the term darkies is bang out of order even if there seems to be a Scottish connection for using that term for people of African decent(Used commonly at least till I left for Canada in 1972),,
So changing a few words for a 3 verse song
I would use..
Bring the good old flute, boys, we'll sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will start the stadium along
Sing it in the voice we used to sing it, 50,000 strong
While we were marching through Scotia.
Hullo Hullo we are the Rangers Boys
Hullo Hullo we keep the Blue Flag Flying High
We'll sing the chorus from Gretna to the North Sea
While we are marching through Scotia
How the scum fled when they heard the sound
Coming from every corner of our ground
it is the most inTIMidating Sound
While we are marching through Scotia
Hullo Hullo we are the Rangers Boys
Hullo Hullo You will know us by our Noise
We'll sing the chorus from Gretna to the North Sea
While we are marching through Scotia
PS my 1690 post makes me now officially a bigot, next in line 1872

Generally accepted by whom (our haters?) because I for one have never taken Fenian to mean Roman Catholic and I haven't met any other Bear who thinks otherwise.

This is what needs met head on.

It's not what you or I think the word 'fenian' means though, it's what the law thinks it means.

The law of this land has stated that using the word Fenian is sectarian.

I've always thought it to be the pira supporting bheasts, when I've sung TBB.

Just shows you how things change with time. 5 or 6 year ago the majority would have said fuck that if someone suggested changing the words. But a few years later and a good kicking from the SFA and scottish football as a whole and people become complacent and start toeing the line that our enemies have drawn

I know but don't do it and we don't get our best song back
