cumnockbear 2,446
Every faith they'll make the step up, could potentially be the best youngsters to come through the ranks in some time.
Thewhitesettler 2,711
Every year we seem to have some 'rising star' or something like that, but they never seem to make it. We haven't had any International Class players come through the ranks for years now. Barry McKay is good, but very inconsistent, plays way more bad games than good games. Celtic appear to get a decent player, coming through their ranks, every couple of years. Are these boys going to be any good for us, in the coming years? It just seems to be that Murray Park (we really need to get that name changed) is not paying for itself. Merry Xmas everybody! Hope Santa was good to you all. Apart from Tierney, who have Celtic brought through there ranks that is any better than what we've brought through? I dont really have a clue what goes on at Celtic these days, but i cant think of one 'decent' young player they have brought through?

I have said on here a few times the youth setup is recovering from the damage done by the previous HOY. He left us with virtually no final year under 20's, only Ryan Hardie remains from that group. Of the 20 odd players he paid a fee for in his time at Rangers very few are still playing senior football. Will the changes work ? Who knows but it certainly won't happen over night. As a man who watches The Rangers at all ages do the McCrories have a chance? Burt and Gilmour seem the others most likely from the reports. Anyone else to look out for Elf? nik2402 1,299
Good business. For the first time in a while we seem to have a group of youngsters that are highly rated. from Hardie and Thompson out on loan . To the McCrorie's, Rudden, Gilmour and Burt. Hopefully a few can make it through.

Celtic haven't produced a youngster better than Mckay, neither do they bring through 1st team players with any regularity (correct me if I am wrong). What they do seem to do is scout better (Virgil VD and Wanyama spring to mind). The media enjoy hyping up their young talent however that's the reality. If Barry played for them they would have slapped a 10million fee on him by now. Agree it would be great to see higher volumes coming through however it finally seems that there is a lot of potential knocking on the door. All the best to you too. gsa 3,906
In my time watching rangers we've produced Ferguson, Hutton, Adam and McCormack. I'm not claiming any of them are superstars but they've all had decent careers, made themselves millionaires and been the most expensive Scottish player at one stage or other. Add in the likes of Snodgrass and Mcarthur who played with us as youngsters and it's clear there are relatively good quality youngsters around. Our record is not brilliant but as far as football in Scotland goes it's not bad. Hibs supposedly have a great youth system but aside from steven fletcher who have they really brought through that's had a career in the EPL? Whatever anyone thinks of the guy he is a talented player. Its a good point about the EPL

Watch out for 16 year olds Jordan Houston, Jack Thomson and Zak Rudden all have been playing 20's recently.

Ta, Rudden is one that has been to the fore of your reports for a while now and certainly seems a natural finisher ( as did Hardie and Stoney) making the huge leap from talented youngster to first teamer is the tough one. If all the right people are in charge of the youths doing the correct things with talented players it should only be a matter of time before good ones are giving our first team management food for thought. That mob are fantastic at hyping up their young players. The reality is that most of them have a few good games then leave, go on loan or end up in obscurity.....Watt being an example. McKay is a decent young player, who if he finds more consistency can be important for us but he has a long way to go. The very best academies in the world, such as Barcelona are not exactly filling their teams with star youth players either. You get freak periods, like Ajax and Man U in the 90s where some great players came out of one academy. Most teams with good academies will be lucky to get a regular first team player every few years, and probably a truly great player once in a generation. In that respect we are no different. We've produced some pretty decent players who have not only gone on to play in England but also brought in decent fees for us. Ferguson and Hutton being notable. Adam, Burke and McCormack are others that spring to mind. At least we have the making of a decent academy and youth system again now. The last few years we had absolutely nothing.
