Baird linked with SPL switch

Fulham, 12:16, January 15, 2009

SPL giants Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Fulham defender Chris Baird on loan this month.

The Scottish giants are ready to make a move for the Northern Ireland international where he would team up with former Whites midfielder Steven Davis at Ibrox.

The Cottagers want around £1.5million for the former Southampton full-back but Rangers are struggling to stump up the cash so are set to ask for the 26-year-old on loan initially with a permanent deal in the pipeline for the summer.

Baird has struggled to force his way into Roy Hodgson's plans in recent weeks and it's thought the Fulham boss will let him leave if he can hold on to key centre-back Brede Hangeland in the current transfer window.

However, if Hangeland leaves then Baird is likely to remain at Craven Cottage with defensive cover thin on the ground.

Not sure how reliable this site is.

I could see something in this. Maybe Ewan Chester has been talking with Fulham again, just like he did last January to get Steven Davis?

Not really a fan of Chris Baird but he's better than Kirk Broadfoot and Steven Whittaker and he can also play CB.

If this is a short term replacement for Madjid Bougherra then I wont be happy.

He's terrible. Not worth the money Fulham paid for him.

According to his wiki page:

Baird went to school at Saint Patrick's Primary School, Rasharkin, before completing secondary education at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Ballymoney

Why are we signing a host of players from a pretty average/poor footballing nation?

oi

We arent very good it has to be said. Baird is pish, hes a championship player who has had some fantastic games for northern ireland it has to be said. Not good enough, totally out of his depth in the premiership which is why hes not playing.

He couldn't get in to the first team at Southampton or Fulham and is pish whenever he plays for NI. We should stay well clear imo.

But it gets worse, my Grandad told me the word on the street in East Belfast is that we've enquired about Warren Feeney :anguish:
