Man City in £15m bid for Scott Brown

Recommended Posts

SCOTT BROWN is a shock £15million target for Manchester City.

The English side, bankrolled by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group, have offered Hamburg that sum for Dutch ace Nigel De Jong.

But they will switch their attention to Celtic midfielder Brown, left, if the German outfit resist.

City gaffer Mark Hughes see Brown’s dynamism as the perfect foil for the creativity of £107m Brazilian target Kaka.

Scotland ace Brown has already insisted he is not looking to quit the SPL champions.

He also revealed the chance to play regularly in the Champions League is a key factor behind his happiness at Celtic Park.

City are toiling in the Premier League and European football is a long way off, but their oil-rich owners want to create a major force in world football and money is no object.

The deal would be the biggest ever involving a Scottish club, dwarfing the £12m Rangers paid for Tore Andre Flo.

Brown’s performances since his £4.5m move from Hibs in 2007 have attracted several Premier League bosses.

Portsmouth’s Tony Adams was linked with a £9m move, but their bid faltered because they are unable to raise that sort of cash.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell was at the City Of Manchester Stadium yesterday to seal a deal for City’s Welsh starlet Ched Evans, as revealed in last week’s Sport of the World.

Hoops boss Gordon Strachan was keen to take Evans on loan with a view to a permanent move.

But City ruled out a loan deal and Celtic have decided to take a chance now.

It’s understood the fee for the 20-year-old will be around £1m, but that has yet to be thrashed out.

With the clubs reaching an agreement in principle, the only stumbling blocks are the fee and personal terms.

Highly-rated Evans is expected to be a Welsh international for the next decade.

He made his debut against Norwich City in last season’s Carling Cup before Canaries boss Glenn Roeder took him to Carrow Road on loan for the rest of the season.

He scored 10 goals in 20 starts there, despite Norwich struggling at the wrong end of the Championship.

Evans returned to City this season and made the first of 17 appearances against Aston Villa before scoring his only goal against Portsmouth in September.

He also won the first of six caps against Iceland, scoring with a cheeky backheel with virtually his first touch.

How hilarious. They splash £107M on Kaka and then go out and sign a player like Brown as his foil. Ridiculous, so ridiculous. Total fabrication.

Also, it's just like that mob to sign a total twat like Ched Evans. A totally arrogant and idiotic fuckwit of a boy.

He'll probably do a decent enough job up here but he is nothing like the wonderkid that the media are describing him as, mate. He's been linked with a return to Norwich as well as Celtic.

He has a reputation down there of being a bit of a party boy and is regularly spotted splashing his cash in casino's until the wee hours. There was a segment with him in 4-4-2 a while back and he came across as the biggest twat in existence.

They've been linked with Garrido and Gelson Fernandes as well. I hope to God they don't get Gelson, Garrido is a good left back too.

I don't rate Gelson, remember texting my Man City pal during a Switzerland game at Euro 2008 and he said he could pass but couldn't tackle.

I much prefer Dietmar Hamann or Vincent Kompany tho I'll take Nigel De Jong for big VK at the back!

He's went backwards alarmingly since Hughes came in at Eastlands. He splits the Man City support but there's definitely a player in there somewhere.

Guest The Brown Brogue

Seriously, how does a journalist/editor get away with that kind of 'story'?

Their premise being that because they have bid 15 million for Nigel De Jong, a dutch regular with experience of one of the toughest leagues in europe, they would bid the same for Brown? Unbelievable.
