But then that comes down to the player, does he want an easy couple of years on a better wage or does he want to feel valued, keep improving and eventually better themselves?

Yes so some players will always give 100% regardless but it's easy to slack off, more so if you have a secure contract.

I'd quite happily live with taking that risk, (say we lose waggy for free because of this, as a worst case example) if it avoids giving players like Ian (wankstain) black from being given 3 bastard year contracts.

People are by nature lazy & will get away with as little as they can for as much as they can.

If they can secure longer deals without the constant need to prove/improve, they'll take that option when it comes along.

I think it was Clough who had this type of incentive scheme - lower basic and bigger performance-based bonuses, and he did ok.

Be happy if MW turns out to be half the manager Clough was.  Scheme sounds sensible enough and has to be better than appearance bonuses

I've only read a small portion of the thread but I think people have misunderstood this incentive business.

Warburton quite rightly has stated that players will only arrive here if they want to play for Rangers. The incentive bonuses are there to try and keep said players here instead of jumping ship to a team down south if and surely when that situation arises.

That's my two cents anyway.

It would be great to see a scheme like this although hard to implement due to the nature of current [layer contracts.

Achieving something that rewards player performance as opposed to them merely turning up for a pya cheque would be a big step forward

Warburton has to concentrate on his part as Manager the financial side should be handled by someone else. Which I'm sure is what is currently happening.

No - imho all good managers should be able to work with and understand the business needs

Also MW wants that new structure as a manament tool of incentivising success - Jim McLean did this during Scumdee united's successful period

Look forward to seeing ten-year contracts and journalists getting hooked.

This will be a very hard system to implement, as the human element is the part that is the weakest link in MW's formula, players being players in general.

No matter how well it is apportioned it is just not possible to control people with financial incentives alone, and then trust that this system will be 100% successful on a long term basis.

The only way for incentives to work at a football club is that the whole team only get payed for a win, and as we have seen once or twice this season (more notably against Hibs) the team played really well but due to the human element ruling the game we still lost.

Therefore monetary incentives would make it an even more bitter pill to swallow if coupled with the personal reactions of a defeat.

My reading of this system is that it may therefore be installed as an incentive to initially sign for the Club to beat off competitors of an equal standing, but by it's very nature not that strong a tool either.

MW's earlier system of self assessment by players is a much more workable system, as most players have a drive to be successful and respected by their fellow players, and this coupled with belief from the coaching staff should be enough, as their salaries alone should be ample compensation and incentive for hard work.

So it makes sense for a company thats making zero cash and still losing money every month and still has to pay off loans to start paying bonuses to folk who have won fuck all for the club?

Will leave you experts to it , enjoy .

Which loans need repaying? If everyone is on a flat rate with bonuses for performing then it's win win for everyone.  You don't know what the wage bill is and you don't know the exact income vs outgoing  either
