The Ghost reacted to BlueSuedeSambas in We want Dembele money for Morelos - Robertson
People can mention as many examples of excessive money in the Premier League as they want but ultimately there is still a totem pole and Morelos plays in a weak SPFL, has never scored against celtic and hasn’t ever played in the champions league.
Us saying that Morelos should go for the sort of money that players within England move for just because players in England move for daft amounts would be like Ayr saying Shankland should be worth the same as Morelos because they have similar scoring records even though one has done it at a higher level and the other hasn’t.
Obviously I hope we get 20 million for him, but it’s by no means a guarantee.

On the 16th February 1935 Rangers legend Tom Vallance died at the family home at 83 Pitt Street Glasgow aged 78.
Tom is buried in Hillfoot Cemetery in Bearsden and his funeral was attended by Mr. Struth, Chairman James Bowie and his old team-mate James McIntyre who both took a cord. Incredibly, players from the Vale of Leven team whom Tom had faced 60 years earlier in 1877 were also in attendance. That will give you an indication as to how highly regarded Tom Vallance was.
Tom was paid the ultimate accolade by the Club in May 1898 when he was made a life member of the Rangers.
In 2012 we had Tom put on to canvas by way of a  painting by artist Helen Runciman which was unveiled at Ibrox Stadium at the end of our Founders Trail.  Tom Vallance took his rightful place at the top of the Marble Staircase alongside his friends and fellow Founders.
    Some facts on Tom Vallance:
Tom had an incredible 60 year association with the Club.
He was a master oarsman, a champion athlete (he set a Scottish long jump record of over 21 feet), he studied at the Glasgow School of Art, had paintings accepted by the Royal Scottish Academy and was Rangers Club Captain and President for many years.
While President of the Club it was not uncommon to find TomVallance working the turnstiles on match day at First Ibrox.
In 1890 he owned the Club Restaurant at 22 Paisley Road Toll which today is the Viceroy Bar.
We have recorded details of Tom Vallance being present at the ceremony held on 1st January 1929 which saw the opening of the Main Stand at Ibrox and also at a Dinner held in the old St.Enoch’s Hotel after a Rangers match in 1933, he was also a guest of the Club that year for the New Year’s day game against celtic.
So, the lad who was present at Fleshers Haugh in 1872 was still attending Ibrox some 60 years later where the Club that he’d helped form and nurture were now playing in front of crowds touching 100,000.
    Today we remember Tom Vallance.

Was out and just catching up with the news, Morelos decision is ridiculous, McGregor decision is entirely his own fault and I posted it at the time in the match thread, he knew what he was doing , he's got away with it a couple of times and now he's been done for it, if that was against us we'd be screaming from the rooftops, anyone who thinks McGregor didn't mean it is wearing blinkers imo.

FFS McGregor , like many other goalkeepers, has gotten away with murder for years with the protecting themselves shit. It was clearly a studs up straight leg dangerous tackle. If that was committed against our forward I’d want the guy done for it so no point pretending it wasn’t dangerous because our player did it

Is there actually a point to your post?  Of course there was a player there but sadly his alcohol addiction put paid to his football career for a considerable period and perhaps will end it entirely.    I'm sorry for the guy and sorry that we didn't do our homework on him before we paid the transfer fee and his wages.  We saw a few glimpses of what could have been and if you check his play on Youtube you can see he had talent.  Pedro and our board cost us a lot of cash not just with Pena.  (Cardoso & Herrera)

How can it possibly be reasonable to have a system where the wealthiest top club is advantaged by being able to buy the best players from teams, loan them back so that everyone else plays against them but that club doesn't?
Creates a horrible cycle. Only one club can really afford to do it, to stockpile players... Makes the league easier for them and tougher for their rivals... reinforces their position as the strongest, wealthiest club... cycle continues.
It corrupts the game. It's monopolisation and damages the fairness of the competition.
Allan at Hibs, Allan at Dundee, Christie at Aberdeen twice, Cifci at Motherwell, Mulumbu at Killie. These are important players. The best at those clubs. These things can make a difference. It's insane that it's permitted.

What’s silly about what i’ve said?
Yes being a point better off is obviously better than GD but if they lose their game in hand and we pull level on points again then their goal difference is still significantly better than ours (10 better than ours at the moment) so it still gives them the advantage.
Until we actually go ahead of them on points their goal difference is as good as them being an extra  point ahead because it’s unlikely that we are going to swing GD in our favour.

Well I did. Those that left were called rats while those that stayed were called wage thieves. Players were in a lose-lose situation. It was ridiculous and unfair and some of those who stayed must have regretted it at times.
If I was at the peak of my career and suddenly found myself with a club with an uncertain future, ending up in the lowest league, facing wage cuts, no international recognition and being spoken about as if I was somebody’s personal property then I think I would have put myself, my family and my career first and, going by the reaction by a number of fans to those who left or stayed, probably wouldn’t have looked back.
If the club are then foolish enough to chase after former players six years later when they are clearly on the decline, with some who weren’t even good enough first time round, while throwing piles of cash at them then some are clearly going to pander to the more easily swayed contingent of the support and trot out the usual soundbites and await the predictable cries of “bring him home” while waiting for the cheque to clear.

One of my first posts outside the match threads was along those lines. I said something like we couldn’t slate the ones who left, calling them rats etc. while abusing the ones who stayed and calling them wage thieves. It was an absurd situation. I was then accused of being “one of them” for some reason I’ve still yet to fathom.

    Good post btw
i have always thought we couldn’t win during this period. Players leaving were rats but what about if they had stayed and took a wage when we couldn’t afford it       ( McCoist as a bad example)
it was what it was I’m pragmatic about the whole thing and have consigned it to the back of my brain.  I couldn’t give a fuck about who we hire as I trust the Gaffer, as long as we see success

Almost two weeks after the final whistle went on the last Old Firm game of 2018, it is incredible to think that we're still talking about the referee.
The manufactured outrage over John Beaton's apparent leniency towards Alfredo Morelos is beyond a joke and you need to question the motives behind some of it.
There's no anti-celtic bias; no 'Operation Stop the Ten' and no grand conspiracy against the team that have won the last seven titles on the spin.

If you've got £10k in the bank, what would you say to someone if they told you that was enough, why do you need any more? Just because someone's a millionaire, doesn't mean they don't want to make more money, we all live our lives based on our incomes, you earn more you spend more.
We couldn't afford to keep them in the lower leagues, obviously, and they got offers to play at a higher level and make crazy money doing it. I understand the argument saying they could have stayed and got the club a transfer fee, but from the players point of view, when's that happening? And where's the wages coming from in the meantime.
Plus, the attraction for a lot of the teams getting these players was the fact they were paying little or next to nothing for them. That might not have been the case if they were paying fees for them.
I can see where your coming from mate, definitely, and the players could've and probably should've handled the situation differently, but the end result would've been the same.

He probably was a boyhood Rangers fan tbh.
If i worked for Rangers but got offered a higher paid job elsewhere, i would leave, and I'm a season ticket holder.
It's easy people saying it's not comparable because it's not a normal job, but to a footballer, with a short career, that is their normal job.

I see why they did it, although wasn’t happy at the time.
Think my stance changed when I had kids. Providing for them is the priority. Rangers was a disaster at the time. Anyone with a decent offer did what was best for them by jumping ship.
Just about anyone else would do the same in that situation.

The Ghost reacted to The Dude in Criticism of Rangers' transfer record is over the top and Premiership table proves it
After a pretty rough couple of weeks for Steven Gerrard's side, Rangers again rose to the top of the Premiership table on Sunday after a nervy 1-0 win over Hamilton at Ibrox as they looked to get over recent disappointments against Aberdeen, Dundee and Rapid Vienna.
With the European campaign over for the season, all focus now turns to the domestic scene as Gerrard looks to lead his side to their first title since 2011 - but I was left scratching my head in bewilderment reading Gordon Parks' MailSport column yesterday as he described Rangers' league showing so far as 'grim' while taking aim at Gerrard for praising Ibrox director of football Mark Allen for his work in the transfer market over the summer.

Well done Hibs! The league is far from over now and there will be more surprise results this season for all the top six teams.
It’s looking like the most up and down season for many a year. We could easily top this one.
