  1.                Butland

    Tav Balogun Souttar Yilmaz

            Sterling Lundstram

                  Diomande

    McAusland             Silva

                    Dessers

Midfield 3 is key. We can’t get over in there otherwise the game is lost. McAusland and Silva needed out wide to give us some pace and an outball so Dessers doesn’t become isolated.

Hopefully don’t concede a stupid opening goal and make it stodgy, turn the fans on them. Then bring Cantwell/Lawrence etc on for some quality as the game goes on

Morgan Whittaker isn't coming to Scotland never mind to be a backup

Mental that Beale pulled the plug on signing him because of his weird no wingers formation, we literally could’ve got him for £1.5million last year.

Just checked and realised he scored 20 goals in 40 odd games in the championship. He’ll be miles out of our league now sadly

  3. We need midfields who can score. We shouldn’t be signing anyone who’s not capable of getting 10+ goals minimum.

The fact O’Reilly has outscored all our midfielders combined is fucking woeful.

With Jack and Lundstram leaving already, I’d do my best to move on Lawrence (and potentially Cantwell) and use the wages to bring in an absolutely solid CDM with a long shot on him, plus a 10 who can score and assist.

I thought Cantwell and Lawrence scored a lot in the EFL, but at their clubs before us their stats were pretty awful. Lawrence hasn’t been a 1 goal in 10 games player for more than 5 years now, that’s miles below the level we need.

  4. Would like to see us keep Cortez on another loan to buy, plus sign someone like Morgan Whittaker or Armstrong for competition, McAusland as 3rd choice/rotation when needed.

Scott Wright needs gone. Can’t be starting the season with him in contention for even a squad place

To put another slant on it, would anyone trade the run to Seville for winning the league that season instead ? Losing that final made us sick but some of the memories I have from that run are so special to me and nothing in our domestic season comes close to that euphoric feeling I don’t think i could trade that

That’s a tougher question, assuming we still lose the EL final.

I feel like the Europa League run happened on the worst possible season for us. It meant we stuck with players who were going stale domestically, allowed a shite tarrier side to win a title they should never have got near, plus the hangover from exhaustion/injuries wrecked the following season also.

Our fitness peaked under Gerrard. The squad was younger, we hadn’t signed injury prone players and the squad was fresh (hadn’t come off seasons where the players were run into the ground).

There has been no cohesive plan since, to build a young and athletic core of the squad that can replicate that intensity over a season.

Only sympathy for the drop off in fitness and injuries under Gio was that Europa league season took a lot out the players.

Seeing the effects of Postecoglou’s style on celtic’s injuries this season.

Guys like Maeda, Hatate, McGregor, Carter Vickers are starting to break down.

Think there will be a clear strategy under Koppen and Clement. Signings will be young with no injury history. Wingers and midfielders will be athletic and able to press.

Agreed, I’m not sure the likes of Sima and Cortez fit that profile of no injury history though.

We were always going to have a big dip after the Europa League season under Gio, look at 93/94 after the highs of the previous CL campaign. That was the time to rebuild the squad and cash in on the likes of Morelos, Kent, Barisic, Lundstram etc.

Instead we kept them and then signing injury prone players who aren’t up to scratch such as Matondo, Lawrence, Davies etc.

Id sell Yilmaz this summer too. Good player but has never stayed fit and we need our first choice LB to play 50 games a season, he’ll never be that player.

I get what you’re saying but Silva hasn’t scored 20 goals.

Sima is (certainly at times) every bit as shite a footballer as Dessers on the eye but people are rightly seeing that a dozen goals or whatever it is at his age is enough to overlook that for now as he’ll likely continue to improve if we keep him.

Good point, remember Sima in one of the CL ties (was it the home leg vs PSV)?

Looked like he’d never even seen a football before, lost the ball nearly every time he got it, but scored a worldie on the stroke of HT. Very Dessers

Did well today. He won’t be starting for us next season but hard to criticise him with the quality of wide player and service he gets other than from Tav.

Silva, Wright, McCausland. The level is miles off a Rangers player.

Silva is fucking dire, honestly what on earth did Wolves see in him

  9. The injury record does worry me.

Missing 65 games in 4 years is over 15 games a season he’s out for. At a young age that could get worse as he gets older.

Id still sign him, but I wouldn’t be spending £5million plus if that’s what Brighton want.

Imagine he'll be looking for a 3yr deal on £30k+.

Just dont see the value in it.

He’ll never get paid it, stupid fucker should learn from the likes of Kent and the 30+ other British players who’ve had the same experience.

Glad tbf, he’s not showed up in any of the big games recently. We need younger legs in the middle of the pitch, giving him a 3-4 year extension with no resale value on a million a year or so, is madness.

  11. He’s not really said anything there that older staff in every workplace feel.

We’ve got a generation of kids now who are growing up with everything at their fingertips on their phone. Even for people my age (early 30s), I can still distinctly remember times where mobiles didn’t exist and the internet had big limitations.

Kids nowadays drink less, want to travel more, prioritise festivals over nightclubs etc. They don’t want to work in offices, the good ones can work remotely from anywhere in the world, are more likely to freelance or have side businesses etc.

I manage a sales team and honestly find it difficult to connect with the under 25s that are occasionally hired in, so it’s no surprise footballers feel the same. The club should make the “leadership team” do courses to make them feel at ease, it would benefit all parties.

The manager has plenty credit in the bank but this next few weeks will be pretty big for him.

    Today

    Parkhead

    League

    Possible Cup final against them.

    Lundstram deal.

Massive, if we finish 2nd this year and fail to win the Scottish Cup, we’re a bad autumn away from being onto our 5th manager in 3 years. He has to start winning OF games.

I have more belief in Clement than the others (although Gios failure was down to Wilson’s piss poor recruitment), but this current “leadership team” have shown time and time again they can’t hack pressure.

He had to stop the rot and that means some honest discussions with the likes of Goldson, Lundstram, Tav. It also means clearing the decks of players who have shown they aren’t up to scratch, all the out of contract players should leave and the likes of Wright, Lammers, Dessers, Matondo, Lawrence, Dowell, Davies need moved on and replaced.

If he fails on the personnel decisions above, the players will fail him.
