I think it was more to do with a potential transfer fee. 
If he scores a decent amount of goals between now and January and a low end EPL team is in danger of the drop I could see them making a bid for him, it’s funny money down there and panic buys in January are pretty common. Him being signed up until 2022 puts us in a strong negotiating position.
