We’d be as well with Miller as player-manager for the last few games because it is abundantly clear Murty has no idea and, more importantly, no authority. There is no upside to keeping him in post until the end of the season. Go now, please.

Not enough bears in the team. People like Halliday, for all his limitations as a player, gets it. Not suggesting we play him but we need them to all want to die for the jersey. He’s always their out ball. He makes himself available and rarely gives or receives a pass further than 10 yards. Just keeps recycling and keeping them moving. If you put someone like Dorrans (probably our most advanced midfielder) on Brown with the instruction “stay within three yards of him unless we have the ball”, they would resort to playing long balls. There is a picture of one of the celtic players (useless big CB who went to Motherwell) grinning as the celtic keeper retrieved the ball from the net for, I think, Hearts second that day. Most blatant example of throwing a game in fifty years watching football.

He needs taken into a quiet room and handed a pistol so that he can do the honourable thing like the gentleman he clearly is. A letter beginning with the words “I hereby tender my resignation” would be an acceptable and perhaps less extreme alternative. Either way, he’s a dead man walking.

Very true. The best indicator of the financial backing available will be in the name of the man chosen. FDB will want time AND money to mould a squad so, if he is appointed, we can assume that they’ve found some money behind the sofa. I just don’t have confidence in them, that’s the problem. If you sent your kid to the shop three times for a loaf and he came back with a pint of milk, six eggs and a packet of Brillo pads, would you send him again, would you have the confidence to get the butter out the fridge this time?

I’d put Clarke’s achievement ahead of Lennon although it’s hard to be neutral where that bastard is concerned! Lennon has gradually built that team, whereas Clarke was parachuted in when Killie were in freefall. As far as the championship is concerned, I would suggest that Dundee United would be favourites ahead of St Mirren. But it’s a tough league and his team have walked it and he’s raised a few bob for them too through the sale of Lewis Morgan. If we had loads to spend, my choices might be different but, given where we are, these three are our best bets

Dead man walking?

Clarke is, quite simply, Scottish Manager Of The Year by a mile. A failing squad lying near the bottom of the table could well pip us for third place. Jack Ross did a good job at his previous club and was brought in to save St Mirren from dropping out of the championship which he did and followed it up this year by strolling a league we needed two attempts to escape. Graham Potter took on a non-league team and took them all the way through their leagues and into the Europa League. Just think about that for a minute. If a guy took Edinburgh City up through our divisions and into Europe, would you rule him out? His assistant is a dyed in the wool bluenose and would not need to be educated in the importance of the next two seasons None of these guys have spent money and have achieved what they have through organisation, planning, player management and shrewd tactics. Any of them would be a huge step forward. Bottom line is that we will have s limited budget in the summer and we need progressive coaches who can maximise the potential of the current resources which all three have done.

All done better than us with their respective teams and resources. Who would you suggest?

Saw him on Sky. Completely out of his depth and saying what he thinks he should say as opposed to what he feels in his gut. Been reading “Press Conferences For Dummies” However, he will learn from this and grow as a coach but every day he’s here is a day we’re not moving forward. I think they’re giving him the rest of the season as promised but I expect that once our interest in the cup ends and the last meaningful league fixture has been played, he’ll be asked to clear his desk next day. Still hope for Clarke, Ross or Potter/Reid

I’m thinking about next season by which time we should have recruited at least two decent centre backs. Assuming Alves and Cardoso don’t feature, we’ve really only got Bates and Wilson. I still see McCrorie as a ball winner although I’ve no doubt he’ll end up at CB. Alongside him we have Dorrans, Holt, Docherty, Jack, Murphy and Candieas so I don’t think midfield is our priority. Two quality CBs, a Moultesque striker and make the Cummings, Martin and Murphy deals permanent. A good manager and that squad would win the league.

If you’re going with 3-4-3, Id swap John for Murphy, push Murphy forward and put McCrorie in for Dorrans at the base of a flat diamond. He will be a great CB and captain one day but we need him in midfield now.
