Sven Goran Eriksson is poised to dip into his famous contacts book to pull off a stunning signing for League Two Notts County before the end of the transfer window.

Eriksson, made the club's director of football after a summer takeover, has been told money will be no object to get an A-list signing from Italy or Spain.

His former Lazio player Pavel Nedved and Luis Figo are both being sounded out to see if they will make a U-turn on retirement and the clubwould also find the funds for Inter Milan's Patrick Vieira.

County want to make three high-profile signings in the next fortnight and have already offered ex-England defender Sol Campbell a mouthwatering offer to reject Premier League offers to move to Meadow Lane.

But the club's new Middle East owners, Munto Finance, also hope to sign a marquee name from Europe to show their ambition of reaching the Premier League is serious.

County were buoyed on Friday that they were able to persuade Peter Schmeichel's son, Kasper, to join them from Manchester City on a five-year deal.

Seeing people like Nedved, Figo, and Viera in League 2 would be hilarious!

a team gets a bit of money and trys to show some ambition by bringing in big names to up their profile, and what happens? they get slated!

personally i think it would be class if even 1 of these players signed for notts county, would be great to see.

and as for everyone bumping their gums that money is ruining football.... imagine the scene....

Rangers are bought by sum mega rich arab who throws millions upon millions at our team, we therefore wipe the floor with the tims and end up seriously competing in europe...

would money still be ruining football then?

Let's be honest, they'd get to League 1 without much of a challenge with a keeper like Kas' on the books.

Any one of the players mentioned would get them to the Championship

This whole thing reminds me of when Portsmouth managed to get Prosenescki and Merson on board but on a far, far bigger scale.

This is the sort of thing you used to do on Champ Man. Somehow convince the likes of Fernando Redondo to sign for you at Rochdale or something like that. :D Fair play to them, but they'd get lumps kicked out of them down there, letalone the fan's abuse. Mind you, Figo did get a pig's head thrown at him once, nothing can top that.

Could you imagine being one of those players and being surrounded by the rest of the dross in that team/league? They need to try and buy the best players in the league then get promoted, then they can start thinking about big names signings
