If we had a wide player he wouldn't get played. Much easier to play strikers and defenders on the wings. I can't work out what Smiith seems to have against players who have a bit of a spark about them and can create something.

But then he comes out and says this.

Baffling.

Well Walter you have spent over £30m on players who are not good enough/never given a chance/positions that did not need to be filled.

You have bought a squad that is too unbalanced and since you have come back you have played John Fleck, Steven Davis, Charlie Adam, Steven Smith, Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty, Kenny Miller, Nacho Novo... in wide areas when they are clearly not wide men!

With the money you have wasted on Lafferty, Velicka, McCulloch to name just a few ou could have bought a couple of half decent wingers!

Funny how last week when we lost to Stuttgart it was the 'players arent good enough at this level'

When we lost this week against 10 men its 'we lack a creative player'

When we lost against unirea it was 'the banks controlling this club'

Funny how when we lose its always someone elses fault but not 'hall-of-famer' smiths'?

This guys completely lost me now and the respect I once had for him is slowly ebbing away by the day.

Please someone come in and offer him a job at some other club!

"As for Aaron, we've tried a few players on the left but he's probably the most natural for that position.

"I can understand people saying 'Give him a go'. But we don't want to throw Aaron in at the moment when points are so vital - it would be unfair on him.

"If we were winning the championship or leading games 2-0 we could put him in.

"But he's an exciting player with real talent and I'd expect him to feature between now and the end of the season."

That's actually embarrassing.

It actually is. Backwards 90's fucking mentality.

That was McCoist who said that. He was playing in the 90's.

Walter dosn't like flair players, no matter what our players do, like score a caraker from 30 yards or something, the next week they are on the bench. TO risky to play that player. I think Walter has mental problems...there is something wrong.

We have been needing a wide player for years now, not just Walter Smith who has failed to bring one in. But I don't understand Walter Smith.

When we needed a 'special talent' a 'wide player', the manager spent £1m on Andrius Velicka. He spent £3.75m on Kyle Lafferty, a striker, who played out on the left for the majority of matches for his previous club(s) - I bet Smith only saw him play out wide, and thought that he could do a job for us out there <cr>. When we needed a wide player, the manager brought in strikers, he then went and spent £8.5m on three central midfielders in the same transfer window.

Aaron - loan

Jerome Rothen - loan

Total spend - £30m.

When we needed wide players, and other positions, we were top heavy with strikers and central midfielders....Walter Smith scouted the players, he picked the ones he wanted, he signed them, and he shoehorned them into positions to save his bacon - said it back in the summer of 2008 that Walter Smith got it wrong in the transfer market, and now he's complaining that we don't have certain players - go work that one out.

A manager with his head so far up his arse, and too stubborn to get with it.

Walter Smith signed the players, he takes the blame, just like any other manager!

Looking back, its time to go walter, no doubt about it

Ah, everyone has been saying it for years, except, during those years, claiming the ones we had in those positions were "too lightweight" "pish" "inconsistent" (Unheard of for a winger I know haha) etc etc etc

Its almost as amusing as the "walter wont play youth" followed by "cant play them, they are too inexperienced" nonsense that goes on.

Quite interesting that the last time we actually looked good, and, had some width, the old whipping boys Adam and Burke were playing! Remember, those players not good enough currently perfrming very well in a league of higher quality than ours, and, we sold them for a combined total of about £500k aye? Pretty much the same amount as a Boyd costs! And, people were delighted.

Charlie Adam and Chris Burke were terrible in the majority of games. Chris Burke never kicked a ball for years. Charlie Adam had a good game, once a month (if we were lucky) - that's why they were moved on. Charlie Adam never brought us width, balance, pace....9/10 his pass, final ball, delivery were poor - he got the odd one right. His lack of fitness and shape was a disgrace. He was yet another player playing out of position.

A bit OTT mate, but, partially true, especially the out of position part though. But the fact is, we were more successful, and, scoring more, generally not being over run like we are now. That was the main point.

Is it not strange though, that now they moved to the championship, they certainly seem able to "kick a ball" though?

I think alot of that has to do with the fact there is nowhere near the amount of pressure at Blackpool and Cardiff as there is at Rangers. Some players have the talent, but not the mental toughness to make it at Ibrox

The both of them are in better shape. They are fitter, stronger, sharper, getting played in a team that is put together in a positive manner....

And played in the right position?

If Smith had saved the money he spent on Laughatthefee, Miller and Velicka, he could have had over £5m to spend on a quality winger, and he wouldn't have this problem.

That we don't have any width is no-one's fault but his. He's the one who bought nothing but defenders, central midfielders and strikers, and then played a tactical lucky dip to see which position they'd play each week.

So, surely they "could" have been doing that for us then ;)

Its a thought though, perhaps there is something wrong at the club, and, selling them was wrong? They can obviously do whats needed technically. Maybe it is the regime, maybe its the general state of things at the club just now, since, better players than them are not cutting it, or, even looking as good as me!
