"There are fans of our club who simply refuse to believe bad news.

It is that attitude which has allowed people to lead us down this path.

For years we have been saying it would come to this - we were told we were at it, self-publicists, back the team, not real Bears etc.

It is about to get very ugly very quickly. And no matter how many people stand with their fingers in their ears saying 'lalalala' this won't go away quickly.

This is the taxman. He doesn't feck about. "

BBC now ...

Rangers have confirmed that the Scottish Premier League club is under investigation by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) over a tax issue.

BBC Scotland has learned that the investigation relates to payments made into offshore accounts.

The club is still up for sale with estimated debts of about £30m.

BBC Scotland has also learned that the investigation does not signal an end for the proposed takeover by businessman Andrew Ellis.

"There is an ongoing query raised by HMRC which is part of a pending court case," the club said in a statement.

"On the basis of expert tax advice provided to Rangers, the club is robustly defending the matters raised.

It is not a new problem. It has been there for a long time, so this just hasn't come up

Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston

"It would, therefore, be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

The club have been unable to purchase a player for 20 months as Lloyds Banking Group tries to control the £31m debt.

Three transfer windows have opened and closed without the Ibrox club bringing out their cheque book.

The last arrival was American midfielder Maurice Edu, who they signed from Toronto in August 2008.

Despite their financial problems, manager Walter Smith has guided Rangers to two successive league titles.

Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston said that the HMRC investigation was being handled by Rangers owner Sir David Murray's parent company.

"It is not a new problem," Johnston told BBC Scotland. "It has been there for a long time, so this just hasn't come up.

"This is more in the holding company of Murray's. It has been one that the Murray Group has been taking care of and been involved in on a day-to-day basis in the past and I would continue to defer to them on that one."

Seems like this is MIH's problem and AJ (the chairman of RANGERS) is washing his hands of it.

And there is my argument, nothing to do with Rangers, its all Murray and its holding up the sale of the club!

Heres another exclusive from the ET, as soon as Ellis declared an interest they started to doubt his credentials

He said: “We had discussions with Andrew Ellis, but the sticking point was the consortium’s proposal to even-tually move the club to a site at Heathrow. The consortium was very property-based.

“There was talk of building a hotel and a casino at the new Heathrow Stadium and of redeveloping Loftus Road. There was a negative reaction to it among the fans.”

He added: “He was a QPR fan. His father had been QPR chairman at a time when the club was very successful and finished fifth in the top flight. But, ultimately, the deal never came off.

“The then owner, Chris Wright, wanted to sell the club, but we were advised by the club that when push came to shove, the money from the consortium just didn’t materialise.

“They were the preferred bidder at one stage, had exclusivity while they carried out due diligence and examined the club’s accounts, but it all fell through.”

Ian Holloway, the Blackpool manager who was in charge at QPR at the time, publicly opposed the proposed move to Heathrow 20 miles away.

Speaking to SportsTimes today, Holloway commented: “I knew Peter Ellis very well, he was an absolute gentleman. I met his son once or twice, but didn’t really know him.

“I wouldn’t have thought that he (Andrew Ellis) would have had the sort of money which is needed to buy control of Rangers Football Club.”

so i wont believe that Kings articles arent from a biased view

The statement posted by BSB was before AJ made his statement. Thats why its not included, plus maybe they didnt want to make stuff up.

If i recall correctly the independent board would only look over an offer. Maybe wrong tho

Never said they werent biased but he is a rangers man like me and you who does not like Murray, but refering to this article, Ellis is a very suspect character who isnt even in the top 500 rich list, so does he have the credentials! he only asks the question which I am sure a hell of a lot of bears have!

It has been speculated in the media today that club season ticket and Champions League income had already been ring-fenced by the bank to reduce the Club's debt.

This is totally incorrect and discussions with the bank in relation to the business plan will take place in the coming weeks.

The club would also like to reiterate once again that at no time has Director Dave King made an offer for the purchase of Rangers Football Club.

In addition, and as confirmed earlier today, there is an on-going query raised by HMRC, which is part of a pending court case. On the basis of expert tax advice provided to Rangers, the Club is robustly defending the matters raised and cannot comment further at this stage.

Frankie - it would seem to be coming from King. I think the timing is a warning to fans with season ticket renewals almost due. I really believe that we should be holding off getting renewals confirmed until Muir/Murray/Lloyds confirm what this business plan is for the coming year.

Once they have that case we have SFA power to influence anything. Then it's just a case of sitting back watching the key players being sold off.

Stu Pollock - the debt is only serviceable at the moment thanks to CL funds. Without that we are loss making (see next season with youth team, no Boogie/Davis) and carrying a debt/liability of somehere between £30-120m depending on which twisted set of accounts carries more weight. Murray's little honeycomb of self interest is crumbling.

A call for non-renewal of ST until the club announces it's plans for the season?

"Due to the poor uptake in ST sales, RFC have been forced to cut our planned budget to make up the shortfall etc......."

Only those with a vested interest in our club being forced to downsize even further, would come out with that nonsense.

Spot on, how the hell does not buying season tickets help the club? Lets stick together, get the renewals in

Yes your right in a way, however it was the only paper who had been peddling only shows in town, fan takeovers etc. According to some Ellis has massive backing, i dont know if its true, but i trust when an offer goes infront of the board they will know what there doing.

No your right, they would look at any deal and would have to give it the go ahead to make sure it was best for Rangers, now if they have not seen these proposals, bearing in mind that Ellis has until the 30th to make his statement then I very much doubt anything is hapening with him? which would mean King ( Daryl and Dave ) are correct?
