Another doom and gloom Daryll "exclusive"

Recommended Posts

The word loophole keeps getting used :sherlock: Sounds like tax avoidance to me something which large companies specialise at for example Tesco. Infact the company i work for has recently restructure our pension payments so we pay less national insurance. The likes of the BBC and BT do the same with their employees. All these big companies use loopholes in legislation, tesco was under investigation in 2007 for tax evasion and where found not guilty as it was deemed avoidance. The very next year the government closed the loophole.

Like I said, Walter and daryl are quite pally and does it not maybe look like walter has made this info available to his journo pal but asked him to sit on it to prevent any distractions from winning the league?

Walter comments in today SUN...

He said: "What would have happened if we'd not won the titles?

"The club would maybe have been sold. There you are.

"Why? Because they're sitting back looking at two lots of Champions League money, aren't they?

"That's 24 million quid, dead easy from their point of view.

"We have been disadvantaging anybody buying the club by winning. That's what we're doing.

"From the other side of things, they are elated aren't they?

"They've got an opportunity of the Champions League money again. They're rubbing their hands."

A lot of reading between the lines, Walter is a wily old fox and I wouldn't put it past him :sherlock:

Rangers have confirmed that the Scottish Premier League club is under investigation by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) over a tax issue.

BBC Scotland has learned that the investigation relates to payments made into offshore accounts.

The club is still up for sale with estimated debts of about £30m.

BBC Scotland has also learned that the investigation does not signal an end for the proposed takeover by businessman Andrew Ellis.

"There is an ongoing query raised by HMRC which is part of a pending court case," the club said in a statement.

"On the basis of expert tax advice provided to Rangers, the club is robustly defending the matters raised.

"It would, therefore, be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

The club have been unable to purchase a player for 20 months as Lloyds Banking Group tries to control the £31m debt.

Three transfer windows have opened and closed without the Ibrox club bringing out their cheque book.

The last arrival was American midfielder Maurice Edu, who they signed from Toronto in August 2008.

Despite their financial problems, manager Walter Smith has guided Rangers to two successive league titles.

I run a number of businesses - sometimes your tax advice and what HMRC would like you to do differs (depends on your accountant and his knowledge of tax laws craphead2.gif ) This is (possibly) just another scaremongering / party pooping story trying to make more of something than exists.

There is a saying that applies to tax (and expenses!) that says that if you claim a penny more than you are due you are a cheat and a penny less than you are due then you are a fool.

With tax laws that line can be likened to the offside rule - sometimes you stray and have to be pulled back sometimes its legitimate space and you score!

Is this a new story or simply the continuation of the 'raids' carried out by the City of London police a while back?

"There is an ongoing query raised by HMRC which is part of a pending court case," the club said in a statement.

doesn't answer your question, but the quote makes me think it might/could be about that

And I think Daryl and a number of other journos need to come to terms with the fact that they don't actually know fuck all.

and in that case, walter smith knows fuck all because this is where this has come from

I dont support Lloyds FC

I dont support David Murray FC

I dont support The RST FC

I dont support Dave King FC

I support the Rangers FC therefore I will renew my season ticket and will continue to 'support' the Champions.

Shame on anyone for suggesting we should do anything else, that just gives ammunition to our enemies.
