By pedigree i meant leagues played in and general recognition, not ability. I've never heard of him let alone seen him play. It would be nice to be linked with a midfielder who had played in some top leagues for once. Almost 29 and still playing in Australia doesn't exactly wow me.

really? So, rather a shit player that costs over the odds, than a cheaper one that is good?

Maybe am reading that wrong but, makes no sense to me.

One of the best players in the stand out team in the A league last year.

Is he good enough? will be a squad player in my eyes.

Is the A league a good standard? is getting better with age but still not spl (yet).

there is defo a market over here for us for good young players at very good prices ,would like to think ally would be using his contacts down here.

would fancy a boy that plays right back called scott neville and a prolific goal scorer called shane smeltz.

these guys would not be getting large contracts of tranfer fees.

Smeltz had a try in Europe and it did not happen for him Neville is not a bad prospect but is still a we bit naive but i am sure Stuart will give him a hand.

Mat McKay from Brisbane Roar is at Ibrox for talks at the moment. He is a good box to box player who chips in with plenty of goals, for you older bears he is a bit like Stuart McCall or for even OLDER bears wee Doddy.

Alex McDonald?

Stuart McCall?

We've been crying out for a player like that for years.

After watching the youtube vids he does look a decent player (i know they can make any1 look good tho). One thing i do like about him in the vids tho is he does tend to make alot of passes with his first touch, which will be refreshing after 5 touch Edu and sledgehammer touch Lee!

Fairly certain he didn't play in the World Cup or i would've heard of him

Nah he didnt but he's been in the team ever since and was a standout in the 2011 Asian Cup.

I'm not one for judging players i've never even seen play, simply based on their league.

RANGERS are hoping to make Australian international star Matt McKay their next signing as Ally McCoist continues to bolster the squad.

The official site can reveal that the 28-year-old midfield star is firmly in McCoist's sights and a deal could be done this week.

McKay is in the UK as Australia have a friendly international with Wales on Wednesday night and Rangers would love to do a deal before the Europa League play-off deadline on Thursday.

The Brisbane Roar captain is at the peak of his form having become a regular in the Australian national team and named Player of the Season in the A-League by the Aussie media.

He captained the Roar to their first Australian title and was inspirational in the 4-2 A League final game against Central Coast Mariners.

McKay comes highly recommended by former team mate Craig Moore who, of course, spent nearly 10 years at Rangers, and Ian Ferguson who has watched McKay blossom during his time in Austrian football.

He also played beside Charlie Miller who was also impressed by his ability.

There are work permit issues but Rangers hope to overcome them and get McKay on board.

McKay, who is left sided but can play in the centre of midfield, has 16 caps for his country.
