Are there any miners left?

Actually that's an interesting question you ask. My late father-in-law was a Lanarkshire miner and a strong union man. His son, my brother-in-law, is a London barrister, the epitome of a middle-class professional. By choice he works for a trades union. It must be in the genes.

Or he just lives according to his conscience, rather than his environment. Which is, I think, admirable, and particularly in the face of sneers from both the working and the upper classes.

Saluting ... Paolo Di Canio at Lazio

FORMER Labour bigwig David Miliband last night quit as vice-chairman of Sunderland FC — minutes after self-proclaimed fascist Paolo Di Canio was named manager.

The ex-Foreign Secretary, brother of Labour leader Ed, announced: “In the light of the new manager’s past political statements, I think it right to step down.”

A Facebook group calling itself Sunderland Against Fascist Di Canio was immediately set up — soon receiving 600 “likes”.

Resignation ... David Miliband

And Dave Bowman, chairman of the supporters’ club Greater Manchester branch, quit vowing not to return to the Stadium of Light while Di Canio was in charge.

He added: “This is an appalling appointment. How can we have a Nelson Mandela Day at the stadium and the following day appoint a self-confessed fascist. It is hypocrisy.”

Di Canio was fined for giving straight-arm salutes while playing for Rome club Lazio — infamous for its right-wing “Ultras” fans. And in 2005 he insisted: “I am a fascist, not a racist.”

Experience ... Paolo Di Canio as Swindon manager

He has a tattoo of the word dux — Latin for leader and nickname of wartime tyrant Benito Mussolini. In his autobiography he even described the dictator as “basically a very principled, ethical individual” who was “deeply misunderstood”.

The 44-year-old former West Ham star quit as Swindon manager in February and replaces Martin O’Neill as boss of relegation-threatened Sunderland.

Chairman Ellis Short said: “Paolo is hugely enthused by the challenge. He is passionate, driven and raring to get started.”

Miliband, 47, announced last week that he was stepping down as South Shields MP to work for a charity in New York.

I hope they go down and their crowds disappear as well.

Folks need to try to understand what this fascism can do to the world of politics and the world in general.

This country itself is creeping towards further and further right wing parties and policies.

I remember a few years back, the tories in Canada failed so badly in an election from a position of power to 2 seats. Would the people of this country be so aware of lying shit politics to do that, or will folks just continue voting for the most likely winner and end up with the same safe seat shite politicians?

"That was a party political broadcast on behalf of the British Communist Party."

I'm a socialist, not a communist. This thread started talking about Di Cuntano taking over as boss of Sunderland, it quickly turned into a debate about Millaband and it wasn't me that started that.

What I did start is, hopefully, to become aware of creeping right wingism and get this cunt to fuck.

Sorry for not asking you for permission to give my views.

Oh and I'm sorry for being sarcy without letting you know first. LOL
