Since the SPL era began

In the era since the SPL began, others have covered that bit well, but I can't help thinking of two others just outwith the SPL era.

For defensive midfielders, I can't look by Stuart McCall. He was immense for us, with his amazing telescopic left leg in sliding tackles. One of my all time favourites.

Biggest disappointment in that area, mainly through injury, was Jonas Thern. Thought he would be the guy to get Gascoigne effective in Europe, but it didn't happen, Never forget his goal, though.

Apologies for widening the topic but I couldn't resist given the topic of DMs.

Barry Ferguson by a mile. During Advocaat's first couple of seasons he was fantastic and allowed the likes of Gio, Albertz and Reyna to bomb forward.

Never understood why he was moved forward when on his days he was one of the best players in that position in Europe.
