I thought the councillor was one of us?

Mathieson is a RC, however his visit to Parkhead last night will be one of only a few occasions he has been there, unlike many if his cronies.

I thought his impression of Hitler at the Nuremberg Rallies was one of the highlights of the night.

I suppose you can argue that the inclusion of Stewart, Connolly, McAvoy and Subo can suggest a leaning towards a certain mentality of viewer, but who would you have balanced it out with along with Amy McDonald?

I have no issue with the opening ceremony being held at Parkhead - it was the area most in need of development and had the largest capacity for an audience. Other than their stadium hosting the opening ceremony, the games have nothing to do with that club.

The only thing that would annoy me is if the area around Ibrox had been passed over for development due to that SuperIbrox/Casino idea that was suggested - as it could have easily been a story generated to prevent that.

The Ministry of Defence rejected a proposal to force the Red Arrows to trail the colours of the Scottish flag at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games’ opening ceremony, it emerged today as the independence debate intensified.

The Games’ organisers confirmed that an informal approach was made by the event’s producers that the world-famous RAF Aerobatic Team performed its flypast at the event using blue and white smoke only.

But the MoD ruled that the team must trail their traditional red, white and blue colours of the Union flag. The flypast was timed to coincide with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh entering the arena.

An MoD spokesman said: “The Red Arrows are ambassadors for the United Kingdom and are famous for their red, white and blue smoke trails which represent the whole of the UK.

“The flypast was to celebrate the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the Commonwealth and the presence of Her Majesty so it was fitting that red, white and blue were used.”

Trust us Scots to ask The Red Arrows to drop the red :power_of_anguish:

Thank fuck that wee bheast athlete was put out.

And good on the MoD for not letting the GCC change the colours of the red arrows. Was a beautiful sight seeing Her Majesty inside Co-op Park while the red arrows flew over and left the trails of red/white and blue. Oh and of course God Save The Queen being sung!

I think some of the unwashed were pure raging when they seen that. Up ye's!

The capacity was reduced to 40k although there were still tickets unsold. If it had to be a large capacity then why have the huge screen and why have closing ceremony at Hampden?

How did spending millions on the San Giro and their bits of land benefit anyone in the East End????

The point is that they would have had nothing to do with the games O/C, only for the fact that it gave GCC an excuse to tart up the midden where the majority of them visit at the tax payers expense.

They saw a chance to spend the money under the guise of the games, therefore costing their beloved club zilch.

How some people cant see this is beyond me.

It must be the only time in history that the venue for the O/C hasn,t been used to stage any events.

Area in most need of development?

The condition of both the Govan area and Dalmarnock area five years ago were akin to two peas in a pod.

Govan, for all it's problems, was nowhere near as bad as Dalmarnock! The East is in more need.

Anyway, in the last few years there's been a big improvement in Govan too.

Aye ok Declan....so thats why Parkhead was chosen....its fckn idiots like you that hold us back and be trampled over.....

Declan eh! Is that the best you've got.

Its idiots like you who see an Opus Dei plot behind every thing that doesn't go our way in the World.

Also idiots like you who hold our club back.Who are so blinded by your faux hatred of catholics, you forget you probably work next to them, grew up alongside some of them, played football with others, some maybe, God forbid, even in the same team.

Did you catch any diseases. No you didn't.

Paranoia and hatred will eventually send you mad son.

You didn't respond to my post. You didn't see why the San Giro shouldn't be used. Would you care to rethink?

This post?

If it was a reduced capacity then I guess the size of the stadium didn't really matter. But if the agenda of the games is to help out those less fortunate, and help revitalise Glasgow, then I think it makes sense to use a stadium in that area as the focal point?

I was not aware they had made improvements to the stadium specifically for the opening ceremony.

Do you have a list, and pricings, of what these were?

I drove through that area for the first time in about 5 years at the end of the world cup and I have to say the place looked completely different, so it's bound to be a boost to the area and maybe attract new business - I just wonder how long it will stay looking that way. I think I heard some people say that they couldn;t manage to get rid of one of the "bars" in the area and it looks like an eyesore.

How does spending millions on ground owned by them, on their stadium, on roads right outside, on letting them knock down a B listed building help anyone in the east end? How does that help out any one of the unfortunates of the east end?

Whilst I believe they should never have spent as much on the Emirates Arena that has nothing to do with the San Giro. The opening and closing ceremonies should have been at Hampden. If anyone thinks that the decision to use the Meccanodome was legitimate then they are simply stupid. There is no rail network there, no motorway, no subway.

Hampden to Motorway : just under 1 mile. San Giro to motorway: just under 2 miles.

Hampden to train station: 0.25 miles San Giro to train station: 0.63 miles.

There are 2 other stations nearer Hampden.

Millions (allegedly £12m) spent on Dalmarnock station which are wasted. Apart from a weird looking entrance building it is impossible to see where that cash went.

As for your question: Do I have a list and pricings on what was spent at their tip? No I don't (as yet) but my FoI application is already in. I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are being genuine with that.
