I mentioned this in another thread last night and it never got answered really, what if a team came in for Waghorn and offered 500k? People would be spewing on here and rightly so.

anybody can bid for anyone. If someone bids 500k for Waggy and we value him at 2million there would be no deal obviously. Simple really

Again, realistically, we were never going to get a Championship  regular for less than 600 k and i'm sure Warburton knew what wages he'd be on so why did club  bid for him?

You would have to ask MW, although what's the point if you won't believe his answer.

We got Waghorn for 200k, a player who was previously sold for £3m. He was an established championship player and younger. So don't think you can say we would never get a regular championship player for less than 600k.

Surely the whole point of opening negotiations with the club is to find out what they will accept?

Only if it was accepted. 500k is probably a decent opening gambit for a player who cost half that 6 months ago.

We should be looking at maximum value when it comes to our own players.

And here's a newsflash,we're not the only club that does it either.

I think folk need to wake up to the reality that is Rangers these days and probably well into the future if not forever.

We will not be spending 5/10 mill on any player ever again, if the board really want to run the club on a sustainable model those days are gone. Even a spend of more than a million will have to be carefully thought out and only if the management team can give a good case for the profit the club may make on the player can that sort of money be spent.

Lets face it we all really knew that anyway, We knew the Pre-board boasts where nothing more than that and many said so at the time.

I dont think there is a Rangers fan out there who expects to see us spend 5 million on a player in near future..

i personally dont expect to see us spend over 1.5 million any time soon..

At the time, when we bought him his value was £700k. So we actually got him for £500k less than what he was worth at the time. (technically 300 less since we got Tav at the same time, but then we'd have to add on his worth too).

Currently though he's worth £525k

(Figures from Transfermarkt)

But it's been the same for every player we've bought under mark warburton, we've gotten them less than what their actually worth (Again market value coming from transfermarkt).

Tav we got for 45k less, Keirnan we got for 60k less and Holt we got for 110k less.

Waghorn wasn't getting a game at Wigan, same as Tavernier hence why we got them cheap.

Diagouranga was a mainstay of Brentford team.

You've just answered your own question.

Clubs will look to maximise the value of their players. If we don't agree with it, we won't pay it.

Would you genuinely prefer us just to blow St Jonshtone out the water and give them 600-700k to get the deal done? For a player, who looks a talent, but has only kicked a ball regularly for this season and last out of the previous 4 or 5?

600k plus wages so prob over 1million quid all in for a guy at 29 in the summer were is the value in that. The gaffer can't talk about adding value then just go and spend 1million on a 29yr old

Just out of interest what do people on here think will be a good investment on the player front for the SPl next season. How much do some think MW should get from the board in the summer to strengthen the squad in the SPL.

5 mill to probably buy about 4/5 players and it will need to be spent very wisely.

Comes from the managers own mouth.  What shall we do?

A- Still believe everyone else,

B- Sarcastically take the piss out his comments with no backing whatsoever on a forum:wanker:

Spot on. Some people on here have short memories. We got into shit in the past because we paid too much for players, and now some folk are thinking that Warbs is wrong in what he is saying; he isn't, it's a 2 fingers up to other clubs, telling them that Rangers will NOT be held to ransom. Thank christ we have him as a manager!

Would really need to be a sure bet of guaranteed profit in 2/3 years and nothing is guaranteed in football so it would be a massive gamble for us to spend that sort of money.

Yes,money shouldn't be an issue.

Again we're not talking about spending 3-4m here.

Personally, 2 million.

spread over two or three players. Tav, Wallace, Holt, Mckay, Halliday, Waghorn, Mckay, Kiernan and Wilson to an extent are more than capable of performing at the top end of the SPL and competing.

One or two loans from EPL clubs and we'll win the thing IMHO

no, what I am saying is we might have bid and then st Johnstone told us their valuation, not the other way around.

So we have a 2 million and a 5 million and I have saw on different thread a couple of weeks ago 4/5 players at 2.5 million coming to 12.5 million so at the moment depending on who you listen to anything from 2 million to 12.5 million.

Fair enough, but I cant understand your reasoning. Money is and always will be an issue when playing in the lower leagues with a very good squad filled with talented players.

We earn next to nothing for being in this league, we've turned the squad into something I didn't think possible in the summer, when all the work was done. We're in a cracking position IMO, board, gaffer and players all on the same page.

So why should St Johnstone sell O'Halloran to us then?

why should they I have never said they should mate if they want 500k for him but we value him at 350k. Then they can accept our valuation or we move on. Might take 6months to a year but over time am sure this tactic of not a penny over our valuation will work for us.

we've gained a reputation under SDM of spending over the odds on almost every transfer so teams would be asking for stupid prices during negotiations. Now time for us to stick it out n get ourselves the best deal.

Do you think MOH is worth 500k?
