Glasgow City Council Business Rates 2017/18

Recommended Posts

I think it is to do (at least in part) with an examination of recent seasons gate receipts. I suspect they have had a general downturn in theirs whilst we languished in the Championship where we have gradually seen an increase since the King takeover.

I am not 100% sure but I think the rates are calculated on Turnover each year for some premises....even so this would make it worse as surely the beggars with 100,000 at each home game would have a bigger turnover. I know one businessman who is raging about Glasgow City Council here is his article in The Herald

Almost forgot about the school that took up a large area at the midden that was bulldozed to make way for a car park. Must be one of the few companies in the world that has considerably increased its land holding and pays less rates on the new supersized stadium footprint than before...

Surely the money being generated by the parking has been taken into account ?

London Road Primary School whicjh was a listed building and ignored for years so they could bulldoze and landgrab with impunity.

I think it is worthwhile looking at the historical rateable values to get the real picture, at least as far as Rangers is concerned.  The SSA.gov website provides that historical information.

https://www.saa.gov.uk/search.php?SEARCHED=1&SEARCH_TABLE=valuation_roll_cpsplit&SEARCH_TERM=150+Edmiston+Drive%2C+glasgow&x=8&y=9&DISPLAY_COUNT=10&ASSESSOR_ID=&TYPE_FLAG=CP&ORDER_BY=PROPERTY_ADDRESS&H_ORDER_BY=SET+DESC&UARN=L348600150&PPRN=47229888&ASSESSOR_IDX=6&DISPLAY_MODE=FULL_HISTORY#results

Rangers assessment for Ibrox was £1,916,000 in 2010.  Charles Green (I assume) managed to negotiate it down to £1,000,000 in June 2012.  It then went up to £1,100,000 in April 2013.  It then looks as if there was an attempt to reinstate the RV to £1,916,000 in August last year, but it ended up back at £1,100,000.

If it is going up to ÂŁ1,270,000, then it is still well below what it was before the club went into administration.

---------------------------

In the East end, their RV was assessed as ÂŁ1,995,000 in April 2010, but fell to ÂŁ1,900,000 on appeal, then a year later on further appeal went down to ÂŁ1,800,000 in April 2011.

The reported drop to ÂŁ1,580,000 seems surprisingly generous and is worthy of further scrutiny.

I'd appeal telling them they worked the equation out wrong as David Murray sold us for a pound.

Failing that write a note saying Rangers are deed!" The inbreeds would probably agree and forgoe the rates to fuel their obsession.

Seem long shots but no less bizzare than the fantasy tax dodges companies like Amazon use.

Excellent post mate, nothing better than cold hard facts being brought to a conjecture party. So Chuckles managed to reduce our old rates by nearly 50%?? Can't believe the 'tarrier infested' GCC let him away with that....

How businesses are affected by the revaluation:

Details of draft rateable values have now been published on the Scottish Assessors’ Association website.

What matters during a revaluation is whether your rateable value (the notional rent at a fixed point in time) has gone up or down relative to the national average. Broadly, businesses in areas or industries doing well should expect their rateable values to increase, and firms in depressed areas should expect them to decrease. However, even small changes to your rateable value could make you eligible for – or disqualify you from – rates relief.

Anyone seen the regeneration over the last 7 years around bheast stadium? Commonwealth village, roads infrastructure, the stadium. They even managed to host ceremonies at the Games.

Despite this the bheast figure has reduced, despite their on going events calendar.

This council and government are corrupt to the core.

It's already started the Rebel had big article last week about Hampden not fit for purpose. It said that Ibrox or the Stydome should be used with the article very sublety putting the emphasis on the Stydome. No doubts tha's the beginninf of the dripping tap syndrome.

Did not read the article but you can be sure this will be the start of the media pushing for the piggery to be the full time venue once Hampden is scrapped.

Surely the SFA should do a deal with Murryfield and keep a neutral venue for cup finals.

The over-valuation on that heap of breeze blocks is done for accountancy reasons. It makes their books look better but it means their Non-domestic rates are higher. Who in their right mind would value that piggery more than Ibrox, unless it's a case of malfeasance by Glasgow's Catholic Co-operative?

Edit- Its seems to center a lot on these "independent" valuations they get. Maybe that should be looked into?
