I’ll be back better than ever

BARRY FERGUSON has told the Rangers fans he should be back better than ever when he regains full fitness.

The midfielder was sidelined just two days into pre-season training with a long-standing ankle problem.

But the Rangers captain, who is now out of plaster and stepping up his rehabilitation, believes his ankle injury problems are behind him.

He said: "I came out of plaster on Monday so that's me started my rehabilitation. I'll be doing swimming for the next couple of weeks to help strengthen my ankle and then, hopefully, I'll be in a position to start back running after that.

"I won't be setting any targets for a comeback just in case I don't reach them. When the time comes I'll be ready.

"But I'm happy with the way everything has gone. There have been no problems. I was in plaster for six weeks so my calf and my ankle are obviously weak so it's all about building it up now.

"Picking up the injury just a couple of days into pre-season training was a killer."

Fergie knows the sensible option might have been to have undergone surgery at the end of last season, which would have cut down the amount of matches he'll now miss.

But, after playing through the pain barrier for much of the last campaign, he now has the peace of mind at knowing when he returns to the team there should be no problems.

He added: "It was a long- standing thing that I had to get sorted.

"Maybe I should have got it properly sorted a long time ago, but I continued to play and I thought with a bit of rest over the summer it would have gone away, but obviously it didn't.

"But that's it fixed now that I've gone in and had surgery on it. I've been down to see the specialist three times and I've been keeping in contact with him every couple of weeks and he is happy with the way everything is going."

He keeps telling us that his performances will improve when he comes back but Barry has said this any time he has been out over the past couple of seasons and has flattered to decieve each time.

Just concentrate on getting back instead of over-hyping your return.

Hopefully he isn't finished.

I'd still have him in my team any day!!

One point on that article.

We were told that this ankle problem was different to the one he had last season. Were we not?

But now Barry has said its a long term problem that he should have got fixed last season?

Is it just me or is there a lot of contradictoin going on here?

He came out with this crap during his 2 previous injuries and he also said it when he came back from Blackburn

The truth is he looked good in very poor Rangers teams thats a fact

Im afraid you are not as good as I originally thought Bazza, no hard feelings old chap (tu)

"Picking up the injury just a couple of days into pre-season training was a killer."

"It was a long- standing thing that I had to get sorted.

?

I'm actually quite glad he's out. I got fed up of him putting in poor performances, shirking at every challenge, recieve the ball, go backwards, pass it to Weir, watch him punt it then moan like f*ck. Instead of coming out to the papers he should be concentrating on trying to get fit.

He better not be allowed to walk straight back into the team!

He also looked good in a very good Rangers side.

Just because someone looks good in a poor team, doesn't mean he'll be poor in a good team.

Full fitness and he'd be straight back in my starting 11.

Ferguson has been dragged down by the mince around him - fuck me it cant be easy playing with Adam.Mcculloch and Dailly at times. He has been trying to do too much. I dont care whether its a new injury or old injury or whatever else - as long as he can stay injury free he is still a top class player and in my opinion the best midfielder at the club

good point from Adam and McCulloch to Mendes and Davies it will be like night and day will be interested to see how BArry plays with them I expect his game will improve a lot in comparison to last year

I wonder how he and Mendes would fit in together, could be very interesting.

It's a disgrace he never got the operation for 6 weeks into the summer. The medical team that never advised it earlier should be sacked

Ferguson is sidelined and will be for the medium term, possibly longer. So can we please bin the 'return of the greatest Ranger' mince and start getting behind what I hope will be our next midfield engine room of Davis-Mendez-Thomson? Due to managerial incompetance, these guys have next to no time to gel as a unit and are now walking into the biggest game of the season.

Personally, I am more concerned about the treatment meted out to Mendez in his OF debut than I am about Ferguson at the present. Here and now, people!

'Mr Rangers' should not swagger back into the midfield when (if?) he returns solely to please his ego and his hype.

There was nothing heroic about Ferguson playing on through injury, it has landed both the player and the Club in trouble, and it was criminally short sighted that Walter did not even try to bring in a short term replacement.
