After almost dying, he managed to lose over 10 stone. A big Rangers man and good friends with Andy Goram, he now requires a liver transplant.

His ambition was to win the BDO Championships and parade it at Ibrox, he did this in 2004 with the biggest smile on his face - a true Rangers man.

I wish him all the best :rangers:

Fordham ends long wait for glory

Jan 12 2004 By Gavin Worley, Liverpool Echo

CROWD favourite Andy Fordham finally ended a 10-year wait for the top prize in darts when he defeated Mervyn King in the final of the Lakeside World Championship at Frimley Green.

The 41-year-old is a former Winmau World Masters champion but it is the British Darts Organisation's premier tournament which has been his main target for a decade.

Many people questioned whether the gentle giant would have recovered in time following his stunning comeback victory over three-time champion Raymond van Barneveld just 24 hours earlier.

But 'The Viking' produced the performance of his life to seal a six-setsto-three win over the number three seed.

Afterwards Rangers fan Fordham revealed he would "love to take the world trophy around Ibrox".

"I have been going up there (to Scotland) since I was two years old," said Fordham, who picked up a cheque for £50,000.

"My uncle Mick, who was a lovely character, supported them so I started to follow them.

"I would love to take the trophy around Ibrox. I have not been able to get up there for a couple of years, but before that I was going up every other month."

An inspiration - well done and good luck.

I remember watching him on diet club (I think it was called) on TV - most loose a lot in week 1 - he lost zero - he had stoppped drinking 20 pints of lager a day but was drinking something like 30 alcopops instead - glad he got to grips with it in the end.
