Former Tamworth FC youth Kane Hemmings is making headlines north of the border at Glasgow Rangers, writes Liam Harrold.

The 16-year-old, who moved from Tamworth FC last summer, has been promoted to the Rangers under-19s team.

Tamworth reserves boss Darren Fulford, who worked with Hemmings at The Lamb, said: "He has been doing extremely well at Rangers and we are all delighted for him.

"He has been training six days a week and looks fantastic.

"He has had to grow up quickly since moving up there and living on his own in digs.

"The boy has great pace and strength and could really go far in the game.

"Kane is also a nice lad and still keeps in touch, he will often text 'good luck' before our games."

Fulford also reckons the youngster's move will benefit Tamworth.

He added: "It is great when Kane does well as people will relate back to where it all started for him, which is here at Tamworth.

"The move was probably the biggest in the club's history, we did not receive any money because of his age but it's not about that.

"Kane can go on to great things at Rangers and hopefully if he does, people will acknowledge us."

Lets hope the lad succeeds along with a good number of others.

The season when we won the league on the last day against Dunfermline a few of us sat down (after a few beers of course) and tried to put the world to rights. One of the questions posed was would you be prepared to suffer a few years of Celtic domination in order to allow a manager to build a good squad of young players from scratch and keep them together right through the ranks in the same way Alex Ferguson did in the 90's if they came out the other side as a side who could dominate for a few years? Everyone to a man said yes they would. Now we all know there are no certainties in football and they might not make it but would be in any worse a position to the one we find ourselves in now with a squad of short term stop gap singings, over priced hopefuls and guys just not fit to wear the jersey? Give the kids a chance Walter, the fans would give you 100% backing and it might just save your job. :unionflag:

No lies. At least they would bring enthusiasm and drive to the squad, which is more than 75-80% of our current players do. I truly feel sorry for Kane and any of our other talented youths; unless there's a blizzard in Hell, they'll never get a chance under our current leader.

FFS!

Mainly negative posts on a positive story. Good luck Kane, I hope you make the grade with us.

Aye, and sorry about the negativity, although tbh a lot of it is warranted in this case and could be easily remedied by our leader(s) if they would give exercise some creativity now and again and give some of our other players a shot. God knows they'd be hard put to give a worse show than what we witnessed for the majority of yesterday's match.
