The Godfather 71,893 Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 I was driving by our stadium last night and even on a chilly October evening I still got that magical feeling I got as a boy as I first set my eyes on Ibrox Stadium. It really is a sight to behold and after everything we have all been through our proud club still boasts one of the finest arenas in the football world. It has everything, a mixture of tradition with some modern twists and when you see all these new stadia being built (Emirates, Ethiad, Wembley ect) so many of them lack what Ibrox still to this day has in my eyes. I have been to many stadia in my time including some in Spain, Italy, England, France and even America but nothing compares to Ibrox for me. The buzz you get on match day when the stadium is full and the fans are in fine voice still gets me every time.It’s also been noticed by some of the worlds best players of past and present as many have probably already heard (but is noted for those who have not).Didier Drogba (Chelsea)"All I can say when I try to imagine what it will be like at Ibrox is Ooh la la!' I played against Rangers at Ibrox with Chelsea in the summer and we lost 2-0, I have told Perrin that the atmosphere at Ibrox is absolutely magical. To my way of appreciating football, its truly really beautiful. That's how to support your team!"Drogba goes on "Lyon played at Celtic a couple of seasons ago but Ibrox will be completely different!"Thierry Henry (FC Barcelona)"I know the atmosphere that's generated here and that makes it tough for any team. Our Main Stand is iconic in the same way as the original Wembley was.You seldom see outside shots of the Emirates, Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford or Anfield, they are drab and non-descript. Even great venues like the Nou Camp, Bernabeu or San Siro are all about the massive tiers of seating inside, not the buildings themselves. And you couldn't get a more shabby, cheap and nasty looking exterior than that belonging to our shabby, cheap and nasty "neighbours" across the city.These days the only ones recognisable from outside are those with a gimmick like the new Wembley arch or the garish lighting of the Allianz. It’s got so much class and history steeped in those bricks, other old stadiums like Anfield look dated and ‘grubby’ from the outside but not Ibrox.Yes other stadiums may hold more fans and have retractable roofs and such but I wouldn’t swap our home for any other out there today. IainB 599 Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 1964 I remember the day getting off the Dennyloanhead Supporters bus, into Peacocks for a pie. lifted over the turnstile at the Copland Rd end and then walking up the old pathway to enter the stadium under the old cowshed. Was gobsmacked at viewing the magnificent arena that was and always will be Ibrox Stadium a place like no other then now or ever. Ibrox is OUR home, players managers owners but especially fans. The main stand today embraces elegance, history, the future and every thing that is good about Rangers FC.
