craigrfcc 265
Rangers land sought-after Scotland age-group captain ahead of Celtic showdown RANGERS have snapped up Scotland Under-16 captain Jack Adamson – and are set to hand him a dream debut against Celtic this weekend. The left-sided player put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal with the Glasgow giants this week after spending four seasons with Hibs. The 16-year-old was interesting a number of English Premier League clubs and represented Stoke City at a youth tournament in Germany this summer. However, Adamson had no hesitation in agreeing to move to the Gers when the high-flying Championship club made an approach for him. He said: “To be offered the opportunity to sign and play for Rangers at the age of 16 is a very proud moment for me and my family. I am thrilled.” The youngster, who skippered his country in the Victory Shield last year, paid tribute to Hibs for the role the Easter Road club have played in his football career. He added: “I will always be grateful to the coaching staff at Hibernian Academy particularly in my earlier years as they were key to my football development.” Adamson, who hails from Linlithgow, will make his debut for the Ibrox club in the under-17 match against Celtic at Lennoxtown on Sunday. Adamson is represented by Viola FC and their Head of Youth Elliott Fillingham believes he will progress as a player working at Auchenhowie. He said: “We are delighted for Jack and his family on his move to Rangers. We believe the football philosophy at the academy at Rangers will compliment Jack’s strengths well. “We are excited about the next chapter of his learning and development as he progresses towards the first team” Viola FC supremo John Viola said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for a very talented young player and we look forward to working with him over the next few years of his development.” Source: Evening Times
simon 1,743
Great to here the part about the football philosophy in the academy complementing his strengths. Wish the boy all the luck in the world, but it really is encouraging to hear what's going on behind the scenes these days.

Ace 3,556
This is the benefit of having a highly reputable youth facility & staff that run it. Under previous managers & regimes we played at a youth system and the path to actually making it to 1st team football was stifled by the desire for "experience". Potential youth players wouldn't look at RFC because they would spend a couple of years fighting for 1st team action, never get it, then move on, having to rebuild their careers again. Now, we have a very clear understanding of how our youth squad will benefit the 1st team, our manager has made clear his views that if you're good enough, you're old enough & that message is being made very clear to the youth players of other clubs looking in. Now we are able to demonstrate a path to 1st team football, we are able to show that we can improve you as a player, we are able to show that, once again, The Rangers is a club with forward thinking ideas, modern training methods & place where youth will be developed. Hoodster 162
A very short term of contract to be signing at the age of 16. I wonder if one side more than the other was not prepared to commit for a longer period??
onefootwillie 1,518
Does seem a short contract ,not sure if at that age that is standard. However I am sure by the time the contract is up we will know if he is good enough and if he is he will sign a longer contract.
aird 3,774
Is it not just a youth contract at 16 then he goes pro at 17?
allgers 735
It would be nice to see some return from Auchenhowie, we seem to be guilty of paying fees for boys then releasing them a year or two later.

I wonder if one side more than the other was not prepared to commit for a longer period??I could be wrong but i think there's a limit to how long a contract under 17s can be, so not too worried that it's only a year.If he's good enough he'll sign a professional one after this one's up. therightway 65
Is it not just a youth contract at 16 then he goes pro at 17?I think in Scotland you can sign professional deals at 16, in England its 17.
scottyscott1963 18,328
Not sure what the ages are for pro contracts. But would hazard a guess the scumdee utd had a lot to do with it by signing kids on 7 year deals.
