Good news for Diana, Chipmunk... and Tina

Tuesday, April 20 2010, 11:33 BST

By Nick Levine, Music Editor

You know, something tells us The Claw will be punching the air as you read this.

# Yes indeed, D.Vix is on course for No.1 with her debut single 'Once'. In fact, it's currently 10,000 copies ahead of its nearest rival, 'Until You Were Gone' by Chip 'n' Esmée.

# Usher's 'OMG' is completing the top three at present, while Kelis's 'Acapella' has dropped a couple of places since Sunday.

# Taio Cruz and Ke$ha's 'Dirty Picture' is exactly where it was on Sunday.

# Thanks to some very determined Glasgow Rangers fans, Tina Turner's 'The Best' has stormed from nowhere to within a couple of places of the top 20.

# The Glee cast have already cracked the top 40 with their rendition of All-American Rejects' 'Gives You Hell'... and expect more entries to come.

# Over on the albums chart, Paul Weller's on course to debut at No.1, AC/DC and Meat Loaf are set for the top five, Kate Nash is a mere whisker outside and Selena Gomez is just inside the top ten.

So, has that lot put the cat among the proverbials then?

:praise: :praise:

Rangers fans have launched a cheeky bid to get their adopted club anthem Simply the Best to number one in the UK singles chart to accompany their anticipated Scottish Premier League title win this Sunday. The Tina Turner song is played over the Ibrox tannoy prior to home games getting underway.

The song is the 15th most downloaded track on iTunes on Tuesday and, on HMV’s website, it is the most bought song of the day.

A Facebook group set up to publicise the attempt currently has over 22,000 fans and is continuing to grow as word spreads of their stunt.

Walter Smith’s team need just one win to secure their second successive SPL title against Hibernian at Easter Road this Sunday, a match which is scheduled to finish around 4.30pm.

Just two and a half hours later, fans may be celebrating a peculiar double should Turner’s song be named as the UK number one when it is announced shortly before 7pm.

There is motivation other than rubbing their rivals’ noses in it by catapulting the song up the charts, with the group behind the stunt encouraging fans to give to the Rangers supporters’ Erskine appeal. Erskine are a charity who provide nursing and medical care to servicemen and women in the armed forces.

The appeal fund, which is added to every time Rangers fans organise an event to raise money for the charity, is currently sitting at over £40,000.

Usher’s track OMG is the current UK number one, having replaced Scouting for Girls’ This Aint a Love Song on Sunday after two weeks at the top.

A midweek chart update of the UK’s 40 top selling singles is broadcast on Radio 1 on a Wednesday afternoon, giving those trying to get the song to the top spot the chance to find out how their efforts are getting on.
