  1. he was giving out orders as if he had never been away, nice sign.
  2. yep, exactly. Listening to this nonsense from him about non fouls for us etc.
  3. You could almost see that goal coming- that was the Stevie of old, taking the game by the scruff of the neck. In the second half we created somethings, but we needed three points and it was if the players were more mindful of closing the gap. this was a big match to win, they are not that bad a side. The boy Foster worries me a bit though.
  4. The day Davis got the goal when we beat them 1-0 Ferguson was there and he was fists in the air when we scored. He said on Rangers TV that he checked with Scot Symon about taking the job and Symon asked him if Waddell had spoken to him, Ferguson said no and Symon said 'well, Waddell is still running the show, and if he has not spoken to you then that is not a good sign'. So, he did not take the job. Getting back to Butcher, to imagine he even contemplated swapping shirts with Aitken is clearly a man who has left his senses.
  5. Alex Ferguson was 'true blue'. My uncle knew him well and told me he could not believe that he turned down The Rangers. Subsequently, there was an interesting interview with him on Rangers TV, and he said had Mr Waddell wanted him he would have come.
  6. I was open minded about Butcher at the beginning of this subject, till I read this. Swapping shirts for 'gestures' with Celtic players is the typical nonsense that is all to typical of many who do not fully appreciate this Club. His wife said what to him exactly? To me he sounds a bit over the top. I have often wondered about his relationship with the Club, now I resent he was ever the captain.
  7. He was Rangers capatin, I was taught that meant something, which is why I turned against Barry Ferguson after the way he left in 2003. Did he have to mention things that would be manna from heaven to this Club's enemies?- yes, 'enemies'. Butcher should have protected the Club, not spout things that do nothing but provide a cane to hit us with. You want to see 'true blue'? consider John Grieg, would you imagine him doing that? I was told that when Jock Wallace left Rangers, the first time, he refused to explain any reason that would be detrimental to the Club. That is 'true blue', not the way Butcher went about it.
  8. Rangers are a Scottish Club- Scottish to our core. We do ok, and I think it's time we stopped deriding our league to the extent we do.
  9. Captain of Rangers wanting to swap shirts with Celtic's , and at Ibrox? - no chance. He certainly put the Club a in a great light, eh? I have detected that he is not true blue in recent years, sadly this verifies it. There's an old saying: 'the things of the house stay in the house'- that is the Rangers way. This man has a big mouth. Compare him to our great captains in the past, bet they had stories they could have spilled.
  10. I would not have him anywhere near Ibrox. Can anyone honestly say he is a Rangers player? I cannot even bring myself to imagine him in our strip. as a player he is a prima donna, and as a person he is not Rangers class.
  11. this recurrent £5 million price tag is gradually becoming annoying
  12. I once saw Butcher at a testimonial he was playing in, he had retired at the time, and he had the 'war grease' on and was giving it serious welly. the man is a winner
  13. I wonder, will Ness make way for Edu? Tynecastle is a tight ground - he might like putting edu and and mculloch in the middle
  14. I think this will be a great match-what football and league championships are all about. the gloom merchants like to rubbish our league, but a few teams are coming onto a game, Hearts being one of them. I think our players enjoy these occasions, do not see why we cannot win it. Tonight's match was different, a re-jigged defence, the uncertainty with miller, jelavic coming back etc. Walter occasionally makes a sub with the next match in mind- obviously that could mean Edu starting and is there a role for Fleck at some point?
  15. it is not miller we miss, Naismith is the man that gets us going
  16. Someone mentioned Jardel- that still rankles with me. ah well
  17. very few, including myself, are not comparing him to Baxter in terms of quality, but there is something about the style of the boy's play that has an uncanny similarity to the way Baxter plays. He is a deeper passes that Ferguson in my opinion, and the pass to Whittaker was into the space that he expected the pass to be found in- that would tell you he has good vision. You can't teach that, Ness has a natural ability about him that show signs that he could go to the top. I would be happier if we had him on a 3 year deal, he is an excellent prospect.
  18. Sad news this. Kevin is one of the nice guys in football and this must be frustrating as well. All the best to him.
  19. I have looked at a lot of Baxter videos recently- unfortunately never saw him play- and in the OF match was amazed at the similarity between Ness and him. No, as I said earlier, I am not saying he is the next Baxter, but there is something similar in the style. We ought to protect this boy, let him fail now and again, and allow him to grow by that process. I think he could be a very special player.
  20. This is not true at all, and I am no fan of Murray, who I regard as not being of the Rangers ilk. What is there to hide and hide what exactly?- please bear in mind that we are a football club, and the accounts are there for anyone to read who bothers to read them. Suppose the story of the Rangers was a lot more simple and than that, and it had much to do with large countries taking up TV money and centralising power to themselves, and that Sir David lost interest after that. He gambled, he lost. Where did he gamble?-he gambled on us reaching the very lucrative big money on the old second tier CL Group Stages and we never recovered from our two serious attempts to get to that. We have debt, our income is not consistent enough- because of our dependence on CL money- for us to handle that debt easily. There are no secrets, no hidden agendas, no sinking ship, no mysteries about our Club- place it in its historical context. Yes, we have problems, but they are becoming managable. That headline will not sell papers, but that is the facts. I believe Craig Whyte is very serious about wanting to invest in the Club, and see no reason why not, even being rumoured with the Club has heightened his profile. Please note I use the term 'invest', does anyone actually 'buy' or 'own' Rangers? Sir David Murray does not own Rangers, he has an investment in Rangers, but Rangers do not get owned, or bought.
  21. Souness. I was very young at the time, and felt something very special was going on. He gave the Club(looking back on it now) a shake, roused the 'Sleeping Giant', and kicked ass. As a Club, there is no better for me, I still feel Souness has a rare appreciation of what this Club means that would put a great many to shame. In the words of Jock Stein 'that man has class'; I think ur fans knew that well back then.
  22. Spire, I think you are saying what a few of us are a few of us are afraid to say. I am not old enough to have seen Baxter,( and no, I am not saying he is the 'next Baxter') but I have looked at video of Baxter many times and there is an uncanny similarity with Ness and Baxter. On a another note, does it not make all our hearts glad to see one of our own come through? I love to see our players come through the ranks, hopefully Ness keeps working at his game and doing all the right things.
  23. Absolute nonsense to suggest that the 'Bank is running Rangers'. So Walter went to the bankers and asked for £1 million to buy Goodwillie?- and how did that work? which banker did he go to? - this is the first I have heard Walter is not only manager, but has now assumed the role of Chief Executive as well as manager? Rangers is run to a budget based on an debt/income/profitandloss ratio, and based on that it was obvious signings would be made last summer(we will also make signings in the summer coming). I said this would happen when I was on the BBC forum and a Celtic fan said 'but Walter said you are skint', on which I replied that Walter will have his reasons for doing that which I do not agree with. If we don't qualify for the CL next season then what we do the summer after next might mean a stricter budget. Yes, Rangers in Meltdown makes great reading, but it is not true in a cold context. The problem is we need an income, as a result of this our debt is troubling. If I go and ask for a £ million loan from the bank, on top of my other debts, are the bank running my life if they take my income and other factors into consideration? The Bank will be treating Rangers just like any other company, especially with a 'disinterested' owner, as we have. Very little will change about how the Club is run even if there is a takeover,I have my own reasons for believing there will be investment into the Club happening in the not too distant future, but year on year we have been improving financially. We are exceedingly reliant on the CL money, and that is a chain we need lifted from around us, till then things will be tight from time to time till the debt is minimised.
