Veteran Scottish journalist Robbie Dinwoodie writes: “…in 42 years in print journalism I have never come across a worse failure of a newspaper to back a writer than that of The Herald and Graham Spiers”

The isolationist aspect of Scottish Nationalism is reflected here, more boldly than the uncreative, uncurious policies of the tartan stripes of the SNP. The murder and global jihadist plot to destroy Denmark over a cartoon doesn't merit a recollection in Robbie Dinwoodie's awful blog. Nor does the Charlie Hebdo crisis. No, the Scottish readers sympathies should lie only with the sad, fenian bastard who posts blogs from a dark room and has the indecency to call this behaviour journalism. When that nonsense is swept aside and one of Scotland's biggest newspapers rids itself of 'writers' who belong to the propaganda wing of Celtic FC, we are to feel ashamed with our freedom of expression quarrels. That's why the SNP find common cause with these deluded, untalented wage-stealers. They are all drinking from the same cup.

And this nonsense about Graham Speirs being a Rangers fan, how superficial that plot seems to be. It's almost as if he worked it into his routine from the moment of his comedic conception.
If he's a Rangers fan, or was, or there is any evidence to suggest he was; then he's either a native informant who has seized upon an opportunity to profit from commenting on the 'anti-intellectual' element of the Rangers support at it's weakest, or he is suffering from the worst case of Stockholm syndrome since Big Pussy Bonpensiero.

That was a good hard fought win today.
Overall, I thought it was a good game, Hivs came to stifle our play and succeeded a bit. Playing one up front, showed they would be defensive and would play for the breakaway.
Yes, we have played better this season, but I won't criticise our effort today.

On the build up to the play for their goal the headless chicken lost the ball when we were in an attacking position.
I don't think he's got what it takes to be a fist team player.

I believe that Walsh can play down the right so I've put Templeton on the left wing.
If match fit I'd play Bell in goals.

Robinson is not the answer long term IMO from what I have seen, however i'd have him over Simo every day of the week. I think he's solid enough as back up to Bell.
With regard to the goal I would not lay any blame with him. When someone is 20/25 yards out 9 times out of 10 they will go for power or hard and low, and the few that try to chip almost never score, unless you're Phillipe Albert! It's almost impossible to chip a keeper from 20/25 yards out although if the keeper comes off his line you give them a chance. If you try to chip the keeper though you lose any pace on the ball so the accuracy has to be perfect. Robinson has therefore came off his line a little to narrow the angle, and in turn making it easier to save an expected power strike. He'd probably have saved it however the deflection has changed everything. The power is still on the ball but because of the trajectory on the ball it is now suddenly looping over him, at pace with a deviation from where he was expecting the shot to go, all in a split second. It only just goes over him so it may look sloppy and preventable but I think it was just a very unfortunate deflection, and Robinson can't be faulted IMO.

Don't know much about any of these players but if they increase our chances for promotion and the cost burden remains with Newcastle as some people have suggested, what have we got to lose?

Confidence is on the rise says Nicky Law - I really wish I could agree with him, but I just can't see it.
Yes, we got the win - a vital one away from home on a gawd awful surface, on a gawd awful day - but nothing has changed. Our football is still rudimentary; our tactics non-existant; our strikers woeful and our defence an utter nightmare.
We created enough chances in the first half to win two games, yet we were unable to convert four clear cut opportunities that any competent striker would have put away quite easily. According to Derek Johnston on commentray, the Kenny Millar strike that hit the post was blown of course by the blustery conditions - good God, what next!
Nevertheless, we should have been going in at half time four or five goals to the good. 5 - 3 would not have been an unrealistic scoreline.
Yet, there was not one of our regular strikers that looked confident enough, or ever looked like putting the ball in the back of the net - neither those that started the game or those that replaced them in the second half. Yes, Millar works hard, and Daly put in a good shift, but graft and hard work is no substitute for the ability to finish. The objective is to score goals and, at present, we don't have anyone capable of scoring consistently.
But that said, our real problem is at the back where,to be brutally honest, we are totally inept - incapable of holding a line, and consistently pulled every which way by almost every team we play.
During the first half Alloa frequently got behind us and put in telling crosses, and their play in midfield and up front often left our defenders embarrassed. But, in truth, individual errors are the main feature of our defence and yesterday was no exception. Jig and McGregor were an absolute nightmare, whilst Foster and Smith were......well, the less said the better!
Wether it's Kenny McDowell or Ally McCoist on the sideline makes little, or no, difference, because we have no organisation, no method, no structure, no co-ordination and, despite what Nicky Law says, no confidence. After all that we have witnessed in recent months (and years), it still continues to surprise me that the likes of Alloa, QOTS, Falkirk etc. (not to mention Hibs and Hearts) always look much fitter, faster, skillful and much more organised and determined than we do.
There is a malaise that permeates our coaching regime, and I acknowledge that's how it will be until the boardroom 'mess' is sorted out and financial stability brought to the club. Only then, I think, will we see a 'root and branch' cull of the deadwood at our club - only then will we see the cancer cut out.
Whether its Felix Megath or someone else doesn't really matter, as long as we stop the rot.

During the early play it looked as if we were going to totally destroy them but after the disallowed second goal which looked onside from where I was sitting, Queens Park seemed to take heart from this and consequently their new found enthusiasm resulted in them starting to win more of the fifty/fifty balls as the game became a more scrappy affair. However, having won the ball, their forward play lacked the guile to cause us any real damage defensively other than their goal which came from a soft free kick that Simonson came out for and totally missed as the ball seemed to bounce of the head of one of their players and into the net
    .
Although we were still the better team the determination of the Queens Park players in closing us down when we were in possession meant that we were resorting more to the long punt up the park which was being adequately defended by their well marshaled defense.
Although we never looked in any real danger of loosing the match, the Queens Park players deserve applause for their determined attitude which at times we struggled to master until the appearance of Ian Black who introduced a snappy short passing assurance to our midfield play that was lacking in Nicky Law's meandering attempts at maintaining possession.
On the plus side Chris Boyd is up to his old tricks again of scoring goals whilst young Nicky Clark is looking sharp and taking up good positions off the ball alongside him
    .
Although putting in the occasional good cross ball, Peralta was caught in possession far too often which may be down to a lack of match practice and Jig just seemed to be there without contributing anything great creatively.
Defensively we were solid enough with Zaliukas winning nearly all the high balls punted to their stocky wee target man.
Although the game was a wee bit tense at times the reaction from some of the fans around me was disappointing to say the least as they directed abuse towards the manager and some of our players so much so that I thought some of them might have been candidates to use the phone number displayed on the big advertising board located in the left hand corner of the stadium offering advice for anybody feeling suicidal.
    FFS we won 2-1.

The Daly/Clark combination looked a lot better today than the Daly/Sheils one.
Dean Sheils was hopelessly out of the game today until he moved further back into midfield where he was more involved in the game.
Is this another case of a player playing out of his best position?
