  1. Tend to agree with the OP although think he might have been better to leave it a day or two before posting. Clement has generally managed to get the team to over perform since he arrived, not sure if player for player we are any better than we were the last couple of seasons, certainly not now with injuries taking the toll. Realistically, with the players we have at our disposal, if we manage to win the league this season it’ll be a great season, if we win the treble it will be exceptional. Europe was always going to be a step too far this season, especially with the standard of the teams left in it. And quite honestly, if there is one season we want to miss out getting to the final, it’s this year. I know there was a lot of bravado of going to Dublin and it would have been a great wind up against the celtic fans but it would have been a poisoned chalice with regard to the potential trouble and publicity it would have generated.
  2. Used to get frustrated a bit at Alfie because when he got a goal opportunity he just about always put his foot through the ball with little thought to doing anything different like chipping or rounding the goalkeeper. After 8 months of Dessers, I just wish for once he would do the same rather than being so deliberate.
  3. Close game until the goal. First goal was always going to be vital. If we had scored first, I think they would have struggled to score against us sitting in as, over the two legs, although they were good on the ball they seemed quite deliberate and tended to overplay in attack. Once they scored, it was always going to be an uphill struggle because, like most Portuguese teams I’ve seen, they’re really good at keeping possession.
  4. Unsurprisingly Billy completely overlooked our star striker being given a 6 week, season ending, suspension by the SFA in 1969 when just 2 points behind them. Unsurprisingly Bill overlooked the fact that Sir Robert Kelly was the SFA president during their niar period. Not insinuating any linkage between the above.
  5. Par for the course. They have a former player living in exile in the US who is to scared to return even to play a charity match. A lot still made in media about said player signing for us, nothing about that lot’s reaction then and since.
  6. To borrow one of old Keevins expressions (normally exclusively used against us), it’s all very sinister. Not surprised at the deflection tactics, pretty well standard practice by managers who are under pressure and trying to deflect from their own team’s shortcomings. However, really poor to bypass the referee and target a specific guy who was not on the park nor responsibility for making the final decisions, particularly when they have done so previously causing the man (and his family) to have threats made against him. Then again, their history indicates they will use any means and pull any trick if it can be used to their advantage.
  7. Don’t understand his comments on the sending off or penalty given against them. It’s the referee who made the final decision on those, otherwise why would they bother going to the monitor to review them. Looks like they’re trying to make Beaton the scapegoat. Wonder why.
  8. McCoist was pretty awful the first couple of seasons with us, his saving grace was that he could always put the ball in the net against celtic. Still have Ally’s miss against Inter Milan away as one of the most embarrassing misses I have seen from a Rangers forward. Not saying he’s anywhere as good but Dessers reminds me a bit of Hateley’s first few months with us. Hateley was slow, laborious and out of touch too start with but became like a different player in the second half of the season. Starting to see a similar type improvement with Dessers, the last couple of matches he’s starting to run away from defenders which he didn’t look capable of a few months ago.
  9. Pretty well same team as started against Aberdeen. Manager quite predictable now in his team rotation. Doesn’t pay much regard to who we’re playing, which is the right way in my opinion.
  10. I think he’ll go with the team that started against Aberdeen (providing Lawrence is fit).
  11. When it was one each, twice their goalie wasted time by wandering away to retrieve the ball at the touchline rather than go to the ball boys immediately behind the goal. In the last few minutes, it was quite funny to see him frantically looking around for the ball while the ball boys stopped proactively offering him the ball.
  12. Sterling slipped at least twice previous to that incident. Needs to get his studs right in future.
  13. I think Goldson is a good player but he gets caught on his heels too often. Once Mioski got in behind him, it was difficult for him to anything without risking getting sent off. Don’t think Butland covered himself in glory either.
  14. He’s a good player with some talent but think a lot of our fans overrated him a bit in the summer. I think he will come good again but he really needs to produce when it matters. Think he is a bit of a headless chicken at times and wastes a lot of energy he doesn’t need to expend. Would like to see the manager try to get him to be a bit more controlled in his play. If he hopes to have a long career, he’ll need to rein it in. He won’t last into his thirties playing the way he does now.
  15. Agree with that, although would keep their allocation as previous. We have been reasonable on both games so far this season and it is them who’ve tried to play politics with it. Given their actions to deny us tickets for the last game, I don’t think we can trust them to uphold any bargain made on allocation for the final game. Let them bend first for a change.
  16. Feel sorry for him on a personal level but guess the money we’re paying him will ease that for him. Good luck to him anyway. Think Clement has handled the situation very well.
  17. I think we have to accept that, if we sign someone from the top leagues, their goal scoring record is going to be less than prolific.
  18. Same three points at stake midweek as on the 30th. Minimal changes for me, get the game won and take it from there.
  19. A couple of early goals please Rangers. Could do with a routine comfortable win to finish of a great couple of weeks.
  20. Agree with you. Wasn’t good enough and, based on his limited managerial experience, should never have been allowed free rein on such a turnover of transfers both in and out.
  21. Need to keep the pressure on them by keeping winning. The fact they may have blown an 8 point lead on us will ratchet up the pressure on them. Let’s see if they can cope with it.
  22. Don’t rate Lammers greatly but having watched the game today, I thought he was quite good. Gave the ball away cheaply at times but the same could be said for all our players on occasions.
  23. Beale had very little managerial experience to justify him getting the job in the first place. His only selling point was his perceived coaching ability. Given that, you would think that players like Sakala, Kamara, Wright, etc would have been his priority to try and improve and get more from them (particularly as Morelos and Kent were out of contract and leaving). Instead, he seemed to lurch from ‘I can get more out of the players’ when he first came in to ‘we need a total clear out’ after a few months. It’s alright for fans to go down that road but i don’t think an experienced manager would make such wholesale changes in one go. You only have to look at Clement at the present time, in his perseverance and encouragement to certain out-of-favour players, to see what a good manager should be doing.
  24. I think he’ll start with Dessers upfront and see how it goes. Think it would be a mistake to move Sima, he’s scoring goals from his current position and also helping out the fullbacks defensively. Why change something which appears to be working.
  25. No use calling for him to go without knowing who his likely replacement is. We’ve been over this ground before.
