Reading a bit more about de Boer at palace and it’s eerily close to Pedro here:

Think you’ll find that Murty doesn’t know how to use him and that’s why he’s like this.
I always thought he played further forward but in a midfield two with Windass in front he is being asked to sit.

The problem I have with all of this is Morelos playing in a true partnership with Cummings would tick the boxes.
You have your strong player, capable of holding up the ball, dropping deep, drifting wide and linking up with the midfield. Then you have your penalty box striker who'll be looking to get on the end of everything, score poachers goals from mistakes in the box or saves getting pushed back into play.
The big problem is if you go down that route the rest of the formation has to change as our central midfield isn't strong enough to just have the 2 without an attacking midfielder sitting between the striker and midfield. So you go to a 3 in the central midfield. Then that means if you want to play Murphy and Candeias you have only got 3 players left for defence. So you play 3 central defenders. Then what of Tavernier and John? Ok so play Tavernier and John as wingbacks in a 5-3-2 WB but that means dropping Murphy and Candeias.
Thats the issue here. We've built a team to play a certain way and this doesn't involve a classic striking partnership. This means you make a choice between Morelos and Cummings. Each player offers different qualities therefore you'll never get the best out of both in my opinion.

    Sorry not buying that.
Look at Clarke at Kilmarnock. They're players are not good but he's got them playing as an organised unit. A manager can inspire and motivate or confuse and demotivate.
Murty talks a good game (just like Warburton did) but he's not backing it up with his own actions.

I often wonder if the interviews we did just involved talking about ideologies rather than actually understanding if the manager knew what he was talking about or was just working off of a textbook of phrases and soundbites.
It would be good to know that we actually tested knowledge and understanding of tactics.
"So Mark, you're playing at home against St Johnstone and you are losing 1-0 at half time. They have set up with a 4-5-1, sitting deep, with a pacey striker who has already scored on the break in the first half. What do you do?"
"I tell the players to keep doing what they are doing but better. Learn from your mistakes in the first half and make sure that our pitch geography is correct"
"Sorry Mark, what would you actually do?"
"Oh right, yeah sorry. I'd wait until 60 minutes then bring on like for like players to keep doing Plan A but better"
"Ok, that will be all Mark. There's the door"
