There's a lot to like about Gerrard, who has raised standards at the club in a similar way to Souness, but without the commanding budget. I can't believe his efforts have gone unnoticed down south, but hope he stays put here, at least until Liverpool come calling. IIRC he signed a long contract here,which hopefully shows intent.

I don't disagree that targeting the right players is very important, but ultimately the best players will go for the big money wages. Look down the leagues and you'll generally find, that on average the richest clubs are enjoying most of the success. Of course there's always a Leicester who will come along once in a while, and enjoy brief success, until the rich clubs plunder their squads.

We DO need to compete on wages though, otherwise they will on average get better players. Tactics, motivation etc can only take you so far.

UEFA are at best incompetent. The ticket allocation of 6K ea for Chelsea - Arsenal for the UEFA final is bad enough but to stage it in Baku???... They then claim the low allocation is due to travel restrictions for getting there!... Well don't fucking stage it there then!.. Their defense that they don't know in advance who will compete is a moot point, as you can have a very good guess at which countries they will come from,and hence what the travel restrictions are likely to be.
