Basically saying that Walter isn't to happy with his general attitude and the referee had to tell the coaching staff to take him off in todays freindly before he got sent off

Good find Scott, don't why I never clicked on it earlier myself.

Rangers manager Walter Smith says he took the decision to drop teenager John Fleck to the reserves for reasons other than a training-ground bust-up.

The 17-year-old swore at Ally McCoist after the assistant boss criticised Fleck for missing a chance while being training-ground five-a-side team-mates.

Fleck thereafter missed out on Rangers' games in this weekend's Emirates Cup.

"It has nothing to do with that," said Smith after a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal. "I left him out for another reason."

Privately, Rangers are suggesting that Smith, who claims to have made the decision without knowing of the training-ground spat, has concerns about Fleck's general attitude.

So, while the first-team were losing to an Arsenal side inspired by two-goal 17-year-old Jack Wilshere, Rangers' own teenage protege was in Northern Ireland playing in a 2-1 defeat by Glentoran with the Scottish champions' second string.

Referee Brian Turkington forced Fleck to be substituted rather than brandishing a red or yellow card during that match.

But the attacking midfielder had been the star man, scoring two goals and setting up two others, as Rangers' reserves defeated Portadown 6-1 on Thursday.

And, on Friday, McCoist told Rangers' website that Fleck was sent with the reserves "for his own benefit" because he needed more game time.

"The situation is that we want John to get games and that's why he has been given to the reserves," the assistant told Rangers' website.

"We felt it was more beneficial for him to do that rather than come to London and maybe only get short periods."

Fleck, the jewel in the crown of the talent emerging from Rangers' Murray Park training facility, made his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in a Scottish Cup tie against East Stirlingshire in January 2008.

Although he made his Scotland Under-21 debut in March this year, Fleck has to date made only 13 appearances, six from the substitutes' bench, for Rangers and has become frustrated at not yet having become a first-team regular.

And he was particularly disappointed not to feature last month against Nuremberg while Charlie Adam, whose future at Ibrox looks to be coming to an end, played in the pre-season friendly.

Fleck had rejected the overtures of Manchester United and other major European clubs to sign for his beloved Rangers, so there is little possibility of his dissatisfaction leading to a transfer request.

Instead, he will view Smith's decision to relegate him to the reserves as part of a steep learning curve and it is understood that he will return to the first-team set-up on his return from Northern Ireland.

Sent to Ulster along with Fleck was fellow forward Alan Gow, who it was decided also needed game time.

Gow has made just two first-team appearances for Rangers since moving from Falkirk in 2005 and ended last season on loan to Norwich City as they were relegated from the Championship in England.

its hard as he has been built up so much and is maybe beleiving the hype about himself. Part of making it as a footballer also involves character training .....hope he can get through this tough spell and swallow the humble pie needed....not easy but necessary....I am sure Walter will be working on helping him negotiate this particular learning curve

even his unlce Robert Fleck said in papers ages ago that had a bad attuide and was cocky.

There's nothing wrong with being cocky. But telling a legend to go fuck himself...he needs a slap if he did say that.

Nothing to worry about, Fleck is still only a teenager.

Most 17 year olds Ive ever met are lippy wee bastards!

The lad will mature and hopefully learn to keep his mouth shut and keep his head down to earn his place.

The papers will blow this out of proportion, but this is not uncommon in the world of football even with players who are in their late 20's, nevermind a 17 year old boy.

Flecky thump

WALTER SMITH axed Rangers rebel John Fleck BEFORE his foul-mouthed clash with Ibrox No2 Ally McCoist.

Asked after yesterday's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal if Fleck had been dumped over last week's bust-up, Smith said: "That's not the case. I left him out for another reason and that's why he is playing with the reserves in Northern Ireland.

"When I made the decision to leave him out, I didn't know about that row."

SunSport understands Smith is seething at Fleck's attitude and felt he had to discipline him. The teenager played in a low-key friendly with Glentoran in Belfast yesterday after featuring against Portadown on Thursday.

There is little prospect of a return to the first-team fold for this week's friendlies against Manchester City and Portsmouth.

And Smith will now demand an urgent improvement in attitude if he is to bring him back into his plans.

Ironically, the gaffer had rewarded Fleck with a seat in the first-team dressing room when he returned for pre-season.

But he's now back on the fringes after being carpeted by the boss and clashing with assistant McCoist during a five a-side game on the trip to Germany.

Nacho Novo has warned his team-mate to knuckle down.

The Spanish striker said: "It's a difficult situation for Flecky.

"He is a very talented boy. He has got all the qualities he needs to get to the top.

"It's now a question of how is he going to do it?

"The most important thing is hard work."

As Fleck missed out, 17-year-old Jack Wilshere hit a double with Eduardo getting the other as Arsenal won The Emirates Cup.

And Smith admitted the one-sided contest exposed the gap in class between the SPL and England's top four.

He added: "After missing out on the Champions League last season, it is a sharp reminder to our boys of what they'll come up against at the top level of European football.

"We were needing a game like this."

No worries. Just a young guy, growing up and gaining a bit of maturity - sure there's a chance he might blow his chances but a good kick up the backside from uncle Walter will do him no harm. The test of the young man will be how he handles it - in the meantime the rhags will be all over it like a rash.

Sounds like the boy has a lot of growing up to do, which is fine as he is only 17. The ridiculous weight of expectation that saw him valued at ten million (which is a joke) and people clamouring for him to play every week seems to have gone to his head.

Walter and ally should deal with him though. Lets hope he knuckles down and grows up.

Mountain. Molehill.

Problem is these things will happen in training all the time and they didn't used to leave the training ground, now they are all over the papers and internet staright away.

Aiden mcgeady was another example of this last season, was funny to laugh at for us but was hardly a massive deal...if only his father didn't have such a big mouth......

JOHN FLECK is ready to knuckle down in training in a bid to get his Rangers career back on track.

The 18-year-old was axed from the Ibrox club's squad for the Emirates Cup to spend the weekend in Northern Ireland with the reserves.

It is understood a training ground altercation took place at the end of their German training camp between the player and assistant manager Ally McCoist, although manager Walter Smith denied that was the reason for Fleck's exclusion from London.

Instead of facing French side PSG on Saturday and hosts Arsenal yesterday, the youngster was sent with the youth team.

It is still unknown whether or not he will be included in the first-team squad for Wednesday's friendly with Man City as Smith assesses his attitude on his return.

But it is understood the highly rated attacker is determined to show how much he wants to make the grade at Rangers and force his way back into the top-team set-up.

Although Fleck's talents have always been known to a string of Premier League sides in England, he wants to become a key player for his boyhood heroes.

Fleck netted a double and set up two goals as the second string defeated Portadown on Friday. He also played against Glentoran yesterday and will return to Murray Park tomorrow.

A source close to the player said: "John is desperate to make the grade this season with Rangers. He worked hard on his own during the summer to make sure he gave himself as good a chance as he possibly could to break into the first team.

"Although he is still very young, he is ambitious. He wants to play regular top-team football and maybe it has been a little frustrating for him he hasn't quite managed to play as often as he would have liked.

"But John responded well in Northern Ireland by going out and doing a job. Now he just wants to get the head down and get on with things and try to play his way into the starting line-up."

Smith spoke well of Fleck just last week after he returned to pre-season training, but will now expect the youngster to focus on improving as a player and appreciating what is required to play for Rangers every week.

Smith said: "We left him out for another reason and he's been off playing with the reserves. When I made the decision to leave him out I didn't even know about the other thing."

Thought I'd add this in here as this could probably be renamed the John Fleck controversy thread as its not just the 1 story in here  Seriously, there was no point of a new thread.
