NEWCASTLE United are one of a clutch of clubs today reported to be interested in Rangers striker Kris Boyd.

The 26-year-old will be out of contract with one half of Glasgow's Old Firm in June, and can talk to any would-be suitors from January 1.

Newcastle are among the clubs to be linked with a £2m move for the striker, along with Middlesbrough and Birmingham City, whose boss Alex McLeish signed him for 'Gers three years ago.

Boro and United are believed to have contacted agents about Boyd's likely terms and conditions, and if either decide to make an offer, it is unlikely Rangers will be able to keep him.

Obviously we are going to have a lot of these type of rumours gathering pace over the next couple of weeks.

How about a special section of the forum/designated thread for "unfounded transfer speculation"?

Theres going to be heaps of it linking our best players with moves this january, and 90% will be bullshit, yet im sure every story will get its own thread and countless over-reactions.

Thoughts?

It's why we normally have a transfer section to keep all of the shit transfer rumours out of the Bear's Den.

FENERBAHCE will battle Newcastle to sign Rangers star Kris Boyd.

The Turkish giants have joined the race for the striker after a SEX SCANDAL rocked the club.

Fenerbahce sporting director Aykut Kocaman was in Scotland last week to run the rule over Boyd.

Kocaman has now given the go-ahead for a 1.5million bid to be launched following the sex scandal that has stunned Turkey.

Hitman Colin Kazim-Richards was transfer-listed by Fenerbahce boss Christoph Daum - along with fellow stars Vederson, Fabio Bilica and Santos after they organised marathon romps in an Istanbul hotel.

Former Sheffield United star Kazim-Richards has been a big hit since moving to Istanbul, and played for Turkey at Euro 2008.

But Daum - who was himself involved in cocaine-fuelled orgies with prostitutes in 2000 when he was Bayer Leverkusen coach - has insisted the four players are finished at his club.

And that could open the door for a bid for Boyd as they need to bring in new players.

Daum said: "I'm absolutely shocked to find out these kinds of things are happening. I never expected Fenerbahce players to be involved in something like this."

Daum is also ready to dump flop hitman Daniel Guiza.

The Spaniard has failed to settle in Turkey and Daum reckons Boyd will fare better.

But the German coach faces a battle to land his man, with Newcastle boss Chris Hughton also weighing up a move for the Ibrox goal machine.

It's understood that the Toon hierarchy have already sounded out sources close to Boyd over a January switch to the Coca-Cola Championship leaders.

Boyd, who is out of contract in the summer, has not been offered a new deal by Gers.

And while a move to Newcastle would mean less upheaval, the money on offer in Turkey would be far greater.

Birmingham City - who had a 3.5m offer for Boyd accepted by Gers 12 months ago - remain interested with clubs in Germany also tracking the striker.

Trabzonspor are also keen and we can reveal that the Turkish club plan to send a delegation to Tannadice on Tuesday to check on Boyd.

Sporting director Unal Karaman will fly into Scotland and watch the 26-year-old in action against Dundee United before trying to convince him his future lies with his side.

Whatever offer Rangers are finally able to put to their top scorer it is unlikely to match the lucrative contracts Newcastle and the big-spending Turkish clubs are preparing to table.

That would mean Boyd's days at Ibrox are numbered.

Gers gaffer Walter Smith is desperate to keep Boyd, who reached 151 career SPL goals at Falkirk last week.

Smith last night confessed: "I don't know if bids will come in for him - that's out of our hands, isn't it?

"We've now started talking to Boyd's agent with regard to a new contract.

"But other aspects are totally dependent on other clubs, so I don't know.

"We can't determine whether we are going to get a bid for him or not, but if we do then obviously we would need to consider it."
