Who knows what we would get but some of us have blue tinted specs on when we value our own players...and then slate Bain for not getting top dollar for our players.

I remember when Bent moved to Sunderland many on here said we should be valuing Boyd in that company! aye right. At the end of the day unless you have done it in one of the top leagues its very unlikely that youll move for much more than £8 Million. I for one think Jelavic has been a superb signing and looks like our best player for while but lest not forget he was a 4 million pound player when he signed and a 4 million pound player should stand out up here. Ask yourself this. if he was valued at £4 million nine months ago and was on 3 grand a week in Austria...every club in the EPL was aware of him and his talent, what has he done in the SPL in 9 months to turn him from a £4 million pound player to a £10 million plus?

We need to get realistic with our valuations.

Well he's done more here than Afonso Alves ever did before he moved to Middlesbrough for £13m...

I'd have to argue against that. Alves had scored a barrel-load wherever he went, and had played for Brazil.

But still I'd start at £40million

If he is good enought to play for a top 6 EPL team then 15m isnt unrealistic.

Fair enough the EPL has a history of picking up bargains from the SPL. We really didn't have much bargaining power the last few years though - everyone knew our board would accept any half decent (low) bid because of the finances. Before we were in a mess we simply weren't very clever at negotiating transfer sales full stop. Anyone remember how little we sold Gattuso for? Then how much fetched when he was later sold onto to AC Milan?

No reason why we couldn't do a bit better from our players in future with a smarter owner/board and the debt off our back.

I would say around the 10 million mark would be a fantastic peice of buisness, i dont want to see him go but if we can get that sort of fee then it would be very hard to turn down. (tu)

After another season as impressive as this one I'd be looking for 12 million lump sum up front , or 10 million plus add ons .

I just hope bain hasn't put in a stupid 6.5 million buy out clause in his contract .

Best post on the thread. A bit of ambition at last, our fans seem to have been brainwashed into thinking we cant get top dollar.

Cheers. It is amazing how much the last 7 years of being skint have lowered peoples expectations. If septic can sell Mgeady for 10m then we can certainly get a good fee for Jelavic.

I don't know whether this is pish re gattuso because it was a conversation I had in a pub. But I was told we sold him for something paltry like 3.5m to a low table Seria A Italian side, never recovered the full fee, and then they sold him onto AC for something approaching 30m. It just amazes me how poor we were at selling on our star players from the Advocat glory years for decent fees when they did inevitably move on to play in the bigger leagues. We punched below our weight in this respect in the past. There is no reason to believe that a new owner & management with better business sense can't do better for us in the future.

Jelavic is still young at 25 and in half a season he put away 19 goals

One of them a cup winning goal

He is becoming a free kick specialist and his intelagence is unquestionalbe

So for all this i say he is worth £15 million in total

Our supporters lack of expectations with regards outgoing players saddens me.

Correct mate, of course we can, by playing hard ball, talking up our players and demanding top dollar all the while we have no bank above us telling us to accept anything. (tu)

Gattuso left for around 3-4m euros and went onto Milan for around 8-9m euros. I think we done ok with him, we got him for free and had no idea he would go onto captain Italy. He was one of our financial success's.

But we have been underselling players for years, best part of a decade anyway. From a £6m loss on Flo to a £3m loss on Ferguson and £2m loss on Mendes. Pay offs here, there and everywhere too. :(

The last bit from your post which i put in bold makes me happy that i am not alone in thinking what can and should be done.

The idiot from the link below seems to think it was our rivals Rino played for doh

Would have to be at least 10 million, he will hit at least 30 next season and unlike Boyd he will chip in with a lot of assists as well. It would be hard to find another player of that calibre who would actually come to the SPL.

We did do ok with Gattuso then, not the best example. That'll teach me not to quote beer banter without googling it first!

We definitly didn't do well at recovering fees from our departing players during the last ten years, and it played a big role in landing us in the mess we were in.

I particularly like this last line. Completely agree.

Correct and to think our negotiator is still here is scandalous.

After missing a good chunk of the season through injury, aswell as only appearing in the SPL and domestic cup games I'd be looking for something between £6-8m.

If he can produce again in the SPL and in the Champions League to a similar standard then I would be looking for around £12m+.

One of the delays on the deal was apparently our refusal to allow Rapid to have any resale rights on him so I hope baldy mongo boy also dealt with this issue to.
