Allan22 0
RANGERS boss Ally McCoist is thrilled that key stars Nikica Jelavic and Steve Davis are remaining with Rangers and believes he has the squad to chase four in a row. Craig Whyte and the Rangers board had their resolve tested when big interest in the Croatian striker and the talismanic midfielder was expressed but they held firm. The Light Blues rejected a bid from Leicester City for the striker on Tuesday and also rebuffed expressions of interest from agents and clubs for the Jelavic less than an hour before the transfer window closed last night. There was also interest from Aston Villa in Davis but again the club told the English Premiership side he was not for sale. McCoist, who has signed seven new players in the summer, says the squad is ready to challenge for honours and everyone can now focus on football following the closure of the window. He told rangers.co.uk: "I am delighted that Nikica and Steven are both staying. There was no pressure to sell either player but the Club received a serious offer for Nikica from Leicester. "The fact it was rejected sends out a clear message to all Rangers fans and I have no doubt the players we have are more than capable of defending the SPL title. "It has been a long transfer window with lots of speculation but we have added seven new players while the core of our double-winning side last season have been re-signed so I am more than happy with the squad we have. "Hopefully all the boys can return from international duty unscathed and the break will also give our injured players the chance to recover before our game against Dundee United next weekend
Allan22 0
Rangers owner Craig Whyte has spent in excess of £5 million on transfers and improved contracts for key players this summer with Lee Wallace, Dorin Goian, Carlos Bocanegra, Alejandro Bedoya, Kyle Bartley, Juan Manuel Ortiz and Matt McKay all boosting last season's title-winning squad. Allan McGregor, Steven Davis, Steven Whittaker and Gregg Wylde have also signed long-term contracts with the Champions. The Chairman commented: "We had a serious offer for Nikica Jelavic but it fell well short of the player's true valuation. Ally McCoist is building a good squad capable of competing for the domestic Treble and Jelavic and Steven Davis are key players for the team. "Ally has signed seven new players and re-signed seven more this summer which has been a significant investment in the squad. While all Rangers fans want to see as many star signings as possible there has to be realism as well. "Unfortunately we have not qualified for the Champions League or Europa League group stages and the Cub has to be run in the correct manner. "Ally and I discuss these matters constantly and he has told me he is happy with the squad he has at his disposal. We now look forward to the rest of the campaign and doing all we can to continue our success. "As always at Rangers, we are committed to working together to ensure a successful domestic campaign this season."

WWTC 2,257
Cant believe thr improved contracts are bein made out to be part of our tranfer kitty. Our main target was a CF, and we didnt get one. Your full of shite whyte
Marco Negri's Beard 1,423
A good positive statement that is similar to my own feelings. Calm down people. Here here. Would have liked another striker but no way i'm gonna complain considering we couldn't afford to sign a soul a couple of years ago. Let's give the team some time to gel. Davie2909 21
If McCoist thinks that then it must be right! Bullshit we are 1 less than last season 2 of those player of good quality Honestly the amount of shite coming out of Ibrox these days is frightening
JCS 649
Nice positive statement. In the trade it's called 'SPIN'. Put the best possible gloss on a very disappointing transfer window.Fact is that our squad is no bigger, no stronger and the quality is noticably lacking - with the possible exception of 2 or 3 players. We might compete in the SPL....but's that's the level...that's the message that this window has sent to all and sundry.Sorry guys, but it's sad days at Ibrox when we settle for this. Henders82 544
I definately think we have enough to win 4iar but I just find it strange how 2 of our more public pursuits were strikers (Hemed & Goodwillie) and yet we didn't sign one at all.... BlueSuedeSambas 54,615
We aren't in as poor a shape as some people are making out but we still lack a centre forward.Hopefully we can pick up McFadden or Diouf outside the window on frees. I'm not a great fan of either but they would certainly give us that much needed fourth option upfront.
BILLYBOY50 1,638
can someone tell me why we are in a good position to fight on all three domestic fronts with the size of squad we have, if it is in fact smaller than last seasons and that after walter saying the squad numbers needed to be increased and not just in numbers but in quality also ? i am not saying anything about any one of the new signings as its far too early to judge but the size of the squad worries me slightly i think our first eleven when fully fit and the new players integrated will be fine, but not so sure once injuries and suspensions kick in and lets face it we usually have horrible luck when it comes to our experienced players picking up injuries through out the season.but heres hoping we are ok. but looking forward to watching our first eleven i think its a better first team than last seasons with a potential to play good attacking football. w.a.t.p

Our main target was a CF, and we didnt get one. Your full of shite whyteOur main targets at the start of the window were centre backs and midfielders actually. We've brought in boca, bartley, goian, wallace, ortiz, mckay, bedoya to cover these areas. It's unfortunate that we haven't been able to add a striker to the team. But if whyte's is to be judged solely on not signing a striker, then you my friend are the one who is full of shite.Ally McCoist is happy with the squad. Therefore I am happy with the squad. I trust my manager and football club, do you?Keep calm and carry on!
