Dundee United chief Stephen Thompson quits SPL board over claims he was leaking information

28 Nov 2012 00:01

IT'S understood Thompson was spoken to by chairman Ralph Topping after it was alleged he was the source of stories being drip-fed to the media.

Stephen Thompson

DUNDEE United’s Stephen Thompson has resigned from the SPL board after a bust-up with chairman Ralph Topping.

And SPL sources claimed last night the Tannadice chairman was accused of leaking sensitive information.

The source said: “Ralph had a conversation with Stephen last week and some home truths were delivered. It caused a reaction and Stephen found it indigestible.

“Ralph and Stephen did not see eye to eye and I don’t think Stephen fancied coming along to next Monday’s meeting and explaining himself to the board.

“Ralph had asked Stephen for a quiet five minutes during that meeting to discuss some issues.”

Stories that SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster was to be sidelined in league reconstruction talks were circulating last week but our source stressed this was not the cause of fallout.

However, it is believed Thompson was shocked and appalled about what had been said and after a few days of deliberation decided he had to put principle before position.

Thompson was determined to play a leading role in league revamp talks but a club statement cited “professional differences” for his departure.

It’s understood Thompson vehemently denied the accusations of leaking and objected strongly to Topping’s behaviour. But the SPL now have to decide whether to appoint a replacement.

Apart from Doncaster and Topping, who is standing down at the end of this season, only Eric Riley (Celtic,) Aberdeen’s Duncan Fraser and Michael Johnston (Kilmarnock) remain on the board at a crucial time for the top flight amid widespread calls for radical change.

The SPL tried to play down the row by releasing a bland statement which read: “Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has resigned from the SPL board with immediate effect. We thank him for his contribution.”

However, United’s own statement made it clear this was not a smooth or amicable parting, pointing out Thompson “has resigned from the SPL board with immediate effect due to professional differences”.

The SPL are on a collision course with the SFL over league reconstruction plans and Thompson’s resignation couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Thompson is a cunt. A sleekit, rat-faced, skinny little cunt. He screwed the Rangers supporters over that abandoned game a couple of seasons back and would without hesitation hike the ticket prices every time we came calling.

Fuck him, fuck his club and fuck everything about him.

I hate the bastard.

Thompson....you're a wanker!!

The tax case claims another victim.

There is clearly a link between the verdict and Thomson being mutually consented.

I expected the infighting would start as the season went on and the stark reality of no Rangers in the SPL affected the clubs balance sheets.

With Thomson being one of the main bitter drivers in their crusade against Rangers, he was obviously in the way of any attempts to fix the mess they created.

Thomson would see DU go bust as long as it meant he could stab at Rangers.

As ever, we are happy to help facilitate this.

One day, and i can only hope I am alive to see it, the whole RDL (Regan Doncaster Liewell) story will come out, it might take a few years, but it will surface. What normally happens in these scenarios is that someone within the circle feels they are hard done by, and speaks out. This causes a snowball effect and before long, someone says something that they shouldn't have. Maybe Thomson will be that man, lets fucking hope so eh ..?
