Qatar officials plan 'dream football league'

Recommended Posts

Backed by the Qatari royal family, the DFL will host 24 teams every two years in an audacious attempt to rival the Champions League and the Club World Cup and, in the process, offer enormous financial rewards for the participating teams.

an even more elitist setup than the Champions League one that exists at the moment. Well UEFA started it by including non champions in the champions league format as they chased the money. So what goes around comes around.

There is not a cats chance in hell we will be invited.

if UEFA or anybody else wanted us at the top table we wouldn't have to jump through the champions league qualifying stages that we currently do - and thats only going to get worse.

Suddenly being invited to the "top 24" table by this mob is unlikely in the extreme. CG's overseas contacts would have to be brilliant and would have to work wonders!

I've long been of the opinion that Rangers future should lie in Europe not England. I've posted as such on a number of occassions,

Lets be honest here, Rangers in their present state are a million miles away from being invited to join any European league in any format.

But lets look at any advantages such a league might bring and how we might use it to our advantage.

One of the main criticisms of FIFA/UEFA is the amount of corruption in both bodies. They have a captured market and have bought the votes and influence they need to stay in power. There will never be any change so long as they hold the purse strings cos,

no one will bite the hand that feeds them.

This new suggestion, if it comes to fruition, opens up a whole new raft of possibilities however.

Suddenly for the first time, FIFA/UEFA have competion for the clubs loyalty and support. They do not have the monopoly on purse strings any longer. In such a situation it will be in their interests to consider arrangements they have consistently knocked back in the past. As long as they kept the big clubs happy then the little guys could be kept happy with the crumbs but now they need us to ensure their continued survival.

Suddenly cross border leagues, more equitable distribution of money, etc,. become possibilities.

I'm not saying such things will happen, but with a new sugar daddy on the scene, the powers that be have to look at other options.

Suddenly Rangers with a proven massive support (this season/Manchester) become an attractive suitor in a new set up.

All this might well be pie-in -the sky, but while the current corrupt cabal in EUFA and SPL hold the power then everyone is held to ransom and no one will risk challenging the status-quo.

The game (world/ Europe and Scotland) needs a new banker and game changer, this might well be it.

Sadly we wouldnt be there even if we were sphell champions right now, we should be there instead of the moneybags clubs like Man City or Chelsea but we are not considered a top team any more, which is understandable for the football we play.

We are not a top club because the football we play isn't the best?

That has to be one of the most stupid things i've ever heard.

So because Chelsea are shit just now, they aren't a top club? FUCK UP!
