Next signing should be a defensive coach.

I know people want a new manager, better coaching, better tactics, better players, we all want a vast improvement this season as we must gain promotion. The defence is poor whether because of bad players, bad organisation, bad coaching or a combination we have to improve, this is probably the most important season in our history. McCoist, MacDowall and Durrant were all attacking players and have no idea how to set out a defence, 11 players in the box at set pieces is not the answer even then we still find it difficult to win the ball. Last season we didn't lose many league goals but only because of poor finishing by the opposition, teams created lots of chances against our defence but couldn't finish, this season the standard against us should be higher. I would bring in a defensive coach, ex-players have offered to help and work for nothing, no matter what we will have the same management team and they obviously don't have a clue how to organise a defence so we need help before it is too late.

I watch our defence sometimes and wonder what goes on at Murray Park. Off the ball our positioning is terrible. When the keeper has the ball he has no options. It seems as if the coaching staff set up the defence to just punt it up the park. No diagonal runs, nobody making space.

So a manager and 2 coaches can't sort out defensive frailties and bringing in MORE coaching staff is the solution?

Those 3 should be replaced with a new team with fresh ideas and a bit more talent.

No one has exactly been impressed with what we've gotten from them, better replacing than adding more in.

With injuries and suspensions we have had quite an inconsistent defensive line up so far this season, maybe if they get settled for a few games we can chill out a bit.

while i kinda agree with this, at times the basics are severely lacking at the back, with teams usually playing 1 up top against us, we should always have a short outball at goalkicks and when the keeper has it in his hands

when we are dominating it seems the whole backline wants it, when we are under the cosh a bit the whole backline goes hiding and the keeper is forced to punt it

I think our defense looks much better this season with Zaliukas at the back. As much as I like big Mohsni I'd move McGregor into the other centre back slot when Foster is back fit again.

McGregor is half decent at right back but when he gets forward....couldn't cross the street. Give him a shot in his natural position.

How many clubs currently have a specialist defensive coach?

The same logic would apply, then, to the specialist goalkeeping coach.

After all, if we consider the defensive stats to be ok, by the same yardstick, so are the keeper's.

Especially when a short absence for the main man provokes the signing of a guy we've previously ditched.

Don't we have a grossly over-paid goalkeeping coach who seems to instruct 6ft keeper not to leave his line; what happened to 'owning the 6-yard box'...... another waste of money or is it just jobs for the boys.
