He was a tremendous footballer but like you I don't think he hit those heights for us I'm sure he got quite a bad injury, maybe at Fiorentina and he seemed to brick it at every 50/50 tackle. He would sprint down the wing then stop and pass it back the way or sideways. He was devastating on the occasions he would just keep going though. I mind I sat outside Ibrox to meet some players(he hadn't kicked a ball for us yet) and he came out and signed my bit of paper. I wished him luck and told him to tear teams apart and he just gave me a screensaver look that a Ukrainian gives a Glaswegian when they think they have grasped the English language only to be disappointed to learn that Scottish is like a whole new scenario. LaudrupsPatrickBoots 13,540
Had his moments but he's not a player that stands out from that era.
Smile 26,622
I thought Warburton had signed him when i saw the topic heading.

To Be A Ranger 4,032
He was a disappointment for the money we paid. A few good games but too few to merit praise. Also didn't have the pace he showed before joining us. Signed on past reputation.
centenarystand 2,229
After Laudrup left i remember being gutted at Kanchelskis signing, thought it was a backward move. Just shows the expectations back then.

gsa 3,906
Very important in terms of the shape of the team. Gave us an out ball and ate up the grass. Our other midfielders were generally Ferguson, Van Bronckhorst and Albertz none of whom had any real pace.

In the European matches and Celtic he did flatter to decieve
the brown brogue 1,934
Were there not some laughable rumours (surprise surprise) that the reason he wasn't great with us was that the real Kanchelskis had been kidnapped by the russian mafia and we had actually signed his twin brother? Albertz 78 918
Looked amazing at the Mancs in the mid-90s but never really done a huge amount at Rangers. The odd flash of class but nothing like the rampaging winger that destroyed teams while at Man Utd.

At £5.5 million we were robbed , had a few decent games for us , a 4-0 win against the mhanky mob at Ibrox stands out but Man Utd got the best out of him

Smile 26,622
By the time he came to us his good games were behind him, a very talented footballer all the same.
DrLaudrup 4,864
There were some good performances but there was no doubt his powers were on the wane when we signed him.
Thermopylae 15,287
Very good player but I think Ferguson got the best out of him because he moved him on when he saw that the hunger soon went when he became rich
miracle 7,840
I was excited when he signed as he was electric at Man U but ultimately he disappointed.
pollok-bear 7,537
He was decent for us but certainly nowhere near as good as he was at man utd.

Maybe unfair but always equate the reported 5.5m paid on him with the 3m we got for cashing in on Gazza a few months earlier. Even all these years later, still convinced the latter move ultimately cost us 10 in a row. I know what you mean, but he was surprisingly prominent in the season videos, suggesting he was more involved than we may have thought at the time. I suppose, for that much cash spent, we were expecting him to tear it up all the time!
