Still can't look at that season and believe we only done a cup double. Still a great season for the fans BridgeIsBlue and Robborobson

RossS1873 1,671
98 was a little to early for me to process properly, I remember my dad talking about how excited he was. 08 after the season we had, strengthening the team with Lafferty, Miller, Mendes, and Bougherra was exciting even though we lost Cuellar. And a slightly different one, having just beaten the jhungle jims for the first time in years, replacing Sadiq and Ejaria with Davis and Defoe in January '19 was incredibly exciting. I thought we were on a mission at that point. Of course that didn't happen but it was a great sign of things to come

Wanted Ferguson back and the other three were good players for us. Personally I didn't rate Boumsong that highly. Aye , four quality players for the price of one was good business . Thought Boumsong did well for us but he did struggle in the big games in Europe .

I remember being quite young then and my Grandad had given me the paper which had a massive pullout with all of our signings, their history and transfer fee etc. Got me hooked on stats and history in football that season. Loved Charbonnier as well.
GOAT 30,449
Don’t know about window, but the best season we had for signings was either 1986 or 1998.

Aye he was one of those players that looked an absolute worldbeater against weaker opposition, but struggled when the quality stepped up I thought. gmcf

Think it was a 0-0 game at ibrox and advocaats first v them. Johnsey
Dennis Reynolds 1,329
Boumsong was absolute class, looked like the best player we would ever sign, then turned into a big massive prick the closer it to got to the transfer window, De Vries utterly mugged him at Ibrox, he made him look like Newcastle Boumsong, he phoned it in at Inverness, then basically just didn't try against Auxerre which is the night most were utterly done with him but other than those 3 games he was absolutely sublime. By the time he left I thought he was an arse

Built an entire side from the ground up and won the title. Numan, Amato, van Bronckhorst, Kanchelskis, Charbonnier, Wallace, Hendry, McCann, Guivarc'h, Klos, Moore and Reyna. Edit - just seen OP edited post.... But half those players were gone within 18 months at a massive loss, so not sure if it was that successful considering the money spent. Guivarc’h, Amato, Hendry, Kanchelskis, lost us about £10-12million in transfer fees, which is nuts at the time for the amount they contributed.
