disgruntled_bear 157
BARRY WANTS CONTRACT EXTENSION – NOT TRANSFER Barry Ferguson has vowed to snub all talk of a £5 million move to Newcastle and knuckle down to win a bumper new deal for life at Ibrox. Ferguson has just 18 months left on the five-and-a-half-year contract penned when he returned to Rangers from Blackburn Rovers in January 2005. But despite the Toon interest, Fergie has told friends the only deal he wants to sign in the next few months is one extending his stay at his beloved Light Blues. The Ibrox captain - who turns 31 next month - is not keen to make a return to the Premiership despite Newcastle being the latest in a line of English clubs who have targeted him for a transfer south of the border. A friend of the Rangers skipper admitted: "Barry was as stunned as everyone else with the Newcastle link over the weekend and the way in which the story grew arms and legs. "Judging by the way he played at Inverness, though, the story hasn't rattled him. The truth is he hasn't given a second thought to leaving Rangers and going to England. ì Barry was as stunned as everyone else with the Newcastle link over the weekend and the way in which the story grew arms and legs î A friend of the Rangers skipper "He made it clear when he re-joined the club in 2005 that he was back for good and he intended to see out his playing days at Rangers. "That's his only focus and his feelings haven't changed. Playing well enough to earn a new deal at Rangers is the only thing on his mind when it comes to contracts." Toon gaffer Joe Kinnear fanned the flames at the weekend when he insisted he wanted Fergie and had contacted Rangers about the sensational transfer bid.But under-fire Kinnear has been accused of telling porkies in order to take the heat off himself at crisis-torn St James' Park. http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/78510 Says he would rather stay at us than go to Newcastle. Win a bumper new deal for life at Ibrox. Don't like the sound of that

rabness 0
Right Mr Rangers time to say farewell, you have made you're money, time to move over and give the mantel to someone else. Thanks for the memories, although they are fading as it has been a while since you showed us the talent you have. Good luck down at Geordie town, they need you're steely determination fighting relagation, although I think you will have one more triumph as they will win the carling cup next year, just guessing. Cheers Barry, see ya doon tha toon. awriiiite mun! Aw aye sae awriiiite tae Gazza fae us

Poetry_In_Blue 1,043
According to today's Evening Times he is out of contract at the end of this season? Newcastle have been linked with Ferguson and it's an interesting situation. Most of us simply expected the captain to spend the rest of his career at the club, but he is out of contract at the end of the season. Personally, the only thing I can see happening with that one is him signing a new deal to keep him at Rangers. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/displa...2479560.0.0.php

davie1689 1
i`m sure i heard on the radio he has a testimonial year coming up at ibrox so why would he want to leave if that is the case tbh i dont want him to leave but he needs to play behind mendes and not in front cutting out his passes
Poetry_In_Blue 1,043
He definitely played a lot better, and so did the team when he sat back in a more defensive position and let Mendes do the more AM role.
Muff 245
His beloved Rangers - the ones he turned his back on to join a pishy wee Premiership club. Why would you offer a player who is past his best and finished, a new deal - his time at Rangers is up!
Emerson 2
If he loves Rangers that much he needs to consider what is best for it: a) £5M of much needed income or b) Him to stay on and complete his ego trip to the detriment of the side, possibly at the cost of yet another title. Imodium 411
If Barry is to sign a contract extension then he should repay the club for the loyalty and wealth we have given to him by taking a considerable pay cut. If not then it says a lot about the man and his true feelings for the club.

If not then it says a lot about the man and his true feelings for the club. He should play for next to nothing! I'm sure I heard there is a footballer doing that in La Liga? EDIT: It is Athletico Bilbao captain Joseba Etxeberria that is playing for free in his final year of his contract.
