The upshot is Alloa  changed the size of the pitch, not the goals, and this failure to convert is becoming worrisome

Its one thin saying you are preparing well for the next game.  But if, game after game after game, there is a glaring lack of capability to take the chances being created then actually you are not preparing well at all.   The end product of preparing well is scoring goals more goals than the opposition and avoiding conceding goals.      Not signing an out and out goal-scoring striker during the transfer window does not look all that clever right now with a longish run up to the end of the season.    Since that opportunity has passed, its up to the players to do their jobs and take a much higher % of the chances by scoring.   Its as simple as that (as MW would doubtless say)

We can have all the possession we want and play some nice flowing football but if you can't put the ball in the net it's pointless.

If the best we can do to change the course of a game to turn it into a match winning game is bringing on an inexperienced lightweight youngster then I think that tells all it needs to tell about the quality and depth of the squad.  MW knows this - he must know this.    And there lies the risk for the rest of this season - that the squad is not strong enough and not experienced enough.

It's exactly the same as last season. A team that does not have anywhere near enough pride as Rangers players, nowhere near enough bottle to handle the pressure, nowhere near enough grit and determination to win games, and nowhere near enough leadership on the pitch to make a difference when a difference has to be made. And like last year a manage who thinks he can manage but in fact cannot because he applies a 'one solution fits all' to every game. He has no toolbox of variety to adapt to game by game circumstances and make the right choices. He talks in management-speak but that's all he really does. Endlessly saying we are learning but the fact is we are not. He is not a leader. I don't see anyone fearing him I don't see anyone being cowered - or motivated - by his style of management. Its all an experiment to him. He's been given a plaything called Rangers where he gets to experiment with untried players, players who do not know anything whatsoever about what it takes to have a winning mentatlity. The manager and the team are sunshine players - great when things go their way but utterly clueless when it comes to digging out what is needed to win promotion.
At this rate of result and performance I don't see Warburton being manager by end Jan. If it looks like we could fuck up on promotion this season I do not see how King and Co could or would readily afford another season in this league at the sorts of spending currently being seen. We are behaving as though we were top flight - jobs being dished out, talking the talk as though we were top flight. Making one fantastic assumption that promotion will arrive. These actions are a very big error in my view. The first and sole priority is to win promotion. It increasingly looks like we have the wrong managerial approach (and no effective leadership) and a team that is not good enough to do this.
Warburton is the wrong manager for the wrong season. He would have been better as manager in the top flight with some years to work up an excellent team without the primary pressure of having to battle a promotion season first. We need a far more effective leader than Warburton to get out of this league. He either stands up to the leadership plate and gets the team to deliver or he goes. I'm losing patience with his managerial 'bad day at the office .....we are learning.......heated dressing room words.......preparing for next game...' guff. Its all management-speak designed to excuse and to explain away. Winning the league is all that matters this season - nothing else. The rest can wait.
Can he lead through difficult times? Nope. Zero evidence of this. Like McCoist and McDowell and McCall he does not have leadership in his locker.

Reformation Bear got a reaction from HG5 in Our New Captain Is....possibly John Eustace
Wonder what the Chairman's reaction was. If he had no idea who Wotte was then I suppose there's an even chance that he has no idea who this supposed future captain and leader of Rangers is. He (Eustace) came of nowhere in terms of being a prospective signing never mind a prospective captain. A bit like Warburton who also came out of relative nowhere relatively recently to manage Rangers.
The signing - if it happens - seems right now to me to present itself as a bit of a gamble. A player - experienced and capable though he may be - with age very much not on his side, playing in a league which is vastly different to the league he has played in for a team which is vastly bigger than teams he has played for, where the opposition week in and week out raise their game to put one over on Rangers' players, where referees give a lot less protection, where he does not know what its like to play on the plastic pitches at Alloa and QOS and still stay injury free and come away with a winning result. I suggest we need players - and a captain - who inspire confidence that they can win this league this coming season.
Right now, from what little I know of him, I'm not really detecting that he fits a Captain 'lets fucking do it' mode who would assume the great responsibility of captaining Rangers and go on to do an outstanding job. I fear a 35 year old who becomes injury prone playing on the poorer pitches in the league and who may struggle to cope with teams who get players into his face more quickly than happens in the more refined reaches of the Championship in England. With a result of a lot of 'if onlys' at the end of the season. I hope I'm wrong.

It'll be Stuart McCall won't it?
He's had a wee break from Rangers since the end of the season failure games against Motherwell. But actually he's got away with that failure pretty lightly from the Support and in the Press. Board will have used the time to guage how badly the Support has taken failure to get promotion. Seems to me we've just shrugged and carried on. So levels of hostility towards a McCall appointment might be muted (the Board might reckon). So maybe not much to endure by way of Supporter angst or bad press if they invite him back to Ibrox to Manager on a longer contract.
    But maybe more relevantly:
King states that its a must to win the Championship this coming season. 'Not negotiable' he says. Winning the Championship at in first season in charge as Manager, whoever is picked will need to know the Scottish game / mentality towards Rangers and have some idea about how to win at places like Alloa and QOS as well as at Hibs and StMirren. Newcomers to the Scottish game will start at a pretty big disadvantage and with no real room to experiment and take the temperature of the league there will be very little tolerance if we did as last season and fell too far behind by Christmas. That is just a risk King does not seem to want to take (if his 'its not negotiable' statement is taken at face value). So it seems to me no newcomer to the Scottish game seems likely to be appointed. The stakes are too high and even if he is a very talented coach - playing great and not being promoted because it might take a season or two to create the right blend of team to win is not going to be a risk King seems likely to want to take. McCall might well be more affordable that the other leading names. King is still paying McCoist and McDowell so in effect would be paying for 3 'managers' for Rangers for a further half season. Maybe he is the only affordable candidate where it is clear from King that he is doing nothing about bringing the McCoist / McDowell positions to an early end - he has stated a few times in the last week that Rangers will honour their contracts unless the persons themselves change their minds. Players are needed. Players that will be likely to deliver the primary objective of winning the Championship this season. Likely to be mostly Scottish players. We have no scout or scouting system so the incoming Manager has got his work cut out to find the right players at the right wages and placed on the right sort of contract in double quick order then get them to gel in time for the start of the season. And more than gel - to get off to solid winning starts and right to the top end of the league so that when it comes to Christmas time we are leading it and leading it with some conviction that we will win it come May 2016. In all reality can anyone external to the Scottish game achieve that? Would King take the risk? The start of the season is a matter of weeks away. This next season starts to take on the appearance of life as it was just before our start in Div 3. Insufficient players, insufficiently prepared, no effective pre-season, chaos. McCall has worked with the players that remain so he has that advantage of knowing to some degree what they should be capable of. A fresh manager would be starting from scratch with time against him. So will King take the risk of appointing anyone other than McCall? I don't think so. The whole beauty parade of interviewing (is it 5?) candidates and appearing to go through a rigorous selection process aimed at achieving the objective / ambitions outlined by King could simply be an elaborate exercise to give the illusion that the whole field was being given serious and equal consideration - if in reality there was only one really serious candidate and the reason for delay was simply to let the heat of failure of play off final dampen down a bit to test the lie of the land in possible reaction to carrying on with McCall.
So it could well be that McCall makes a return. The least risk choice because its a very risky 'not negotiable' season ahead.

McCall can forget about being Rangers manager next season, and it's his insistence on picking McCulloch that's cost him it.
I honestly can't possibly understand what he thinks McCulloch brings to the side.

    25.3 average team age.
    18, 18, 20, 23, 22 year olds all in the team. Only 2 players above 30.

Absolutely fucking shite. 40 minutes to get a winner and we barely looked like scoring at all.
McCall needs to realise quickly that this 4-4-2 doesn't work if he wants to manage us next season. There's no pace, width or creativity whatsoever. Plus there's too many undroppables, a situation I had hoped was over after McCoist and McDowall left.
Just dire stuff all round. Oh, and Derek Johnstone is the worst. Consistently wrong about everything, making it sound like we should be happy with that
