So it wouldn't have made any difference having Butland in goals or, say, McGregor for another year?
Of course it would. The goals against would then probably be higher than expected as opposed to less than expected. The point being with an average keeper we should have 14 against before yesterday.
We conceded 5 in our first 7 under Beale, under Clement we've conceded 8 in 17. Did Butland get better or are we defending better as a team?

If this is true it puts some perspective on last nights score line.
I think it beats the previous record by 4 or 5.

Butland.
Don't get it mixed up. Butland is the difference.
Goldson's a lucky boy We've got Super Jack between the sticks bailing him out.
He's not though. Before last night our XgA was 14 Vs an actual 12. So while Butland has been excellent our defence isn't conceding lots of chances either.

No ilke him, I really want him to do well, but unfortunately in my humble opinion, I don't think he scores enough.
He'll likely finish on 20+ goals and that's being rotated in and out of the team.

He got caught wrong side because Souttar got caught under the ball as it floated over him and down that channel. Goldson then has to go out to the ball.

On another night we score 6 or 7.
Delighted with the 3 points. We have clawed the scum back. I'm happy about that. Will be delighted when we win our title back.
Is that just the first half?

That left winger from Ivory Coast was superb. Great speed, ball control and ability to beat the full back easily.
At times the full back reminded me of Cleland when he was up against Baggio.

Thought Kyogo had a gumshield in like Hatate when I saw the pic the BBC have on their match report from yesterday
It is surely?

Imagine if we still had Danilo and Sima to choose from. We would be in an outstanding position with so many forward options.
The luck (if you can call it that) with injuries has been unbelievable.
We had literally one player in that fucking dugshite African cup and he comes back crocked for months.
And he didn't kick a ball at it.

I felt he vastly improved when Butcher broke his leg. He then became the main man in defence and had to stand up and make that position his (Leader, Captain).
I don't know if he felt stifled by Butchers presence, as Butcher was slightly his Senior and Captain of Rangers & England.
He came into his own after Butcher left, and the rest, as they say is history.
Butcher broke his leg in the same season Gough signed

Jim is spot on, people go on about our defence but Butland has stopped many clear chances this season.
Yes that's his job, but solely looking at goals lost is not telling the complete picture regarding our defence this season.
We've conceded 12 Vs an XgA of 14.

Been watching football since the sixties and I’ve never seen a penalty given for a clash of heads.
Walsh was so keen to give it that he pointed to the spot before checking on the scum player.
Do you think he should have went and checked in on him then blew his whistle?
He takes a few seconds to blow his whistle after the incident.

I agree last season did really sour the memories of Kent but as others have said, he still had more impact.
Don't want to undermine McCausland as it's his first senior season but Kent had a far bigger impact in his first season here on loan, although was a couple of years older and with a few seasons of senior football under his belt.
Plenty of potential for McCausland and he needs to progress and mature for us but his stats read more like Wright than Kent at the minute. Hopefully Clememt as his team can add that end product.
McCausland has 3 goals and 4 assists in 1570 minutes.
Kent had 6 and 9 in 3438.
McCausland's are marginally better.
Edit: Just realised McCausland has challenge cup games in there. Remove those and Kent's are better but not massively so.

Probably because we scored.

He's jumped before pushed, as a way out gracefully, probably.
He was interviewed last night. It was clear he didn't want to continue.

When he receives the ball he had one man. His control was so poor (off his chest) he ended up getting crowded out.
Goldson wasn’t quick enough to reactHe's got a guy literally touch tight at his back pressuring him and within a second he has Shinnie and Barron in front of him.

Wonder why we have the best defensive stats in the league?
If diddy Dessers could only control a ball aimed at him and give it to Cantwell who was clearly anticipating a knock down to him they wouldn’t have scored
It was a clearing header aimed at nobody and Dessers had 3 men around him trying to take it on his chest. If we can't defend a long hopeful punt then the forward isn't to blame ever.

No disrespect to Ayr Utd, but if we are in a position where Willie Collum influences the final result of the match then we have only ourselves to blame for being in that position.
Collum shouldn't be a factor.
That's why he's been given the game. It should be drama free.

Looks quality, it’s a shame we are shoe horning him into a position he isn’t overly used to, but can see his quality regardless
He's played 126 times as a striker and only 15 games in other positions according to transfer market.
