  1. Dream on Stubbs, this is as good as it is going to get for you this season. Start preparing for another season in the championship............
  2. I'm watching it in the pub, with sound down. Problem solved. As long as we win I'll be happy.
  3. I don't think funding is the issue here. Fairly confident we will get him at a reasonable price (circa 300k) in the next couple of weeks, or we will secure him on a pre-contract in January if Hibs stick to their line so far. It is an interesting thought regarding use of the fund, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure what it was/is designed to be used for so won't comment on that. For now, and given the figures being touted regarding a transfer fee, I feel the club should be able to bankroll this without assistance from elsewhere. I agree that we should only pay what we need to pay to secure him, not just throw money at it for the sake of it. Patience will win in this case, and Hibs could well end up without a fee, losing one of their best players regardless and most likely the reality of spending another season in the Championship which would cripple them - so let it run its natural course.
  4. Stubbs is desperate to hang on to him, but I suspect the deal will be done regardless of what he wants, or worst case, we wait until January and we get him for free. In a way I'd prefer this because that way we don't give them a penny.
  5. I'm not sure Eustace would be able to play at the pace MW is looking for (certainly not at the level we played at for the first 30 minutes or so on Tuesday).
  6. Many of the original players will struggle from what I saw on Tuesday. I think it has already been said before, but only Walsh (of the substitutes made) from last year's squad made any sort of positive impact and looked remotely comfortable. I don't hold out much hope for the others.....
  7. I think we have enough options in CM, but all the better if we pick up Scott Allan from Hibs. I'd like to see another front man coming in though.
  8. Overall, not too bad.. Very happy until Burnley scored, as we had generally controlled the game with some good passing and movement - although still not clinical up front (this applies to the whole game). We showed a sense of purpose and a system that was absent until now which is encouraging, and should become slicker with time. Some good individual performances from the starting 11, which once again, I feel will improve with time. I was slightly more disappointed with the performance when we made our 7 subs on/around the hour mark. It didn't look like the majority of those players (largely the guys from last season) were able to match the level or pace of the first half and I'd question how many of them will get regular playing time this season. But we are on the right track in my opinion, and the improvement achieved by MW and DW in a very short period of time is evident.
  9. He continues to impress. Looking forward to Tuesday's game and the season ahead - he looks to be exactly what we needed. But, lets see how the team performs.
  10. You have to be optimistic about the future when you continue to read positive articles like this. I'm looking forward to the Burnley game to see what improvements have already been made....
  11. My older brother has a brother in law who (up until his early thirties) attended many Celtic games - much to the dislike of his Father in Law who was a Rangers man. Apparently, he got to the point where he was unable to stomach many of the songs they sing etc and decided to support Rangers. I believe he has had a season ticket with us for the past 2 or 3 years now, although struggle to understand how you can move from one extreme to the other if I'm honest.
  12. I don't think he will see much action this season.
  13. The signs with MW so far are very positive...but agree with some earlier posts that we need to bring in a proven striker as we are lacking in that department at present.
  14. I don't mind a fee being required if the player is worth it.
  15. To be fair she was only repeating a point of view that has been in the public domain for years, so I'm surprised at the level of incoming she is getting for it. She hit a nerve that is for sure.
  16. I think MW will assess his performance/capabilities as a coach before making any decisions regarding his future. I don't have a problem with Durrant to be honest; as long as he is coaching in the correct way and passing on good habits to the youngsters. I suppose the deciding factor will be if MW feels he is the right man for the job, and is able to get the message across to the team. If not - he will be on his way as soon as 1st team matters for the season ahead are addressed.
  17. Most likely a "story" embellished by the media, but come on Nicky you should know better. Don't express an opinion and concentrate on playing, because you are on thin ice............
  18. He did okay for us in a poor situation, with an under-performing squad of players (bar the play-off games with Motherwell where I thought he was tactically naïve, and the team were exposed). If he had been given the job, I think he would probably have done okay but I'm glad we are now moving in a different direction with MW. I'm sure that he will get a chance elsewhere, and credit to him for not reverting to the approach displayed recently by ex-players, who were frankly shocking, and really should spend more time looking at their own contribution, rather than slating the club in general for their own failings.
  19. I'd like to see one striker coming in to be honest, but perhaps MW intends to introduce Gallagher or Hardie as per previous posts, based on what he has seen since he arrived? What I would say, is that I'm not keen on Miller or Clark leading the line for us as both would struggle to make any consistent impact on opposing defences.
  20. That would be a solid starting 11 for me, and would be keen to see Sinnamon and Gallagher in amongst it.
  21. I think he will get his chance this season. The few times I have seen him play he has generally done well, and is capable so will hopefully get an opportunity to become a regular under MW.
  22. I think we will be alright. I'm sure MW knows what he is looking for to be honest, given the time available to build a team. Granted, we are not signing big names for big prices but we can't go down that route right now (and possibly not in the future) but he is strengthening our defence which is a must based upon last year. We need someone up front, so I'd like to see someone coming in, unless MW feels he can employ somebody already on the books to do this? I'm not sure who this would be.
  23. Barring a couple of more additions (hopefully a striker and an attacking MF) I think he will be working with what we have. Some of them are capable of playing in a number of roles/positions, but I don't see us getting to the point when we 2 players who can naturally fill every position in the team to be honest. But I live in hope. One thing is for sure - it will be an improvement on last season's team. Of that, I have no doubt.
